The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for two of its biggest films, and fans have been buzzing about whether Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will swing into action alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man or join the massive ensemble of Avengers: Doomsday. With the character now firmly established in the main MCU timeline following the success of Daredevil: Born Again, the expectation for a big-screen team-up has never been higher.

But during a recent media run to promote the upcoming second season of his Disney+ series, Cox directly addressed the rumors. In what has become a classic Marvel star move, he firmly denied being part of both projects. However, for many followers of the franchise, those denials only made the speculation grow stronger.

Charlie Cox Gives Classic Marvel Denial on Late Night

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Cox was put on the spot about his involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His answer was quick and seemingly clear. “No. Now, if I were in the movie, I would also say no, to be clear. Right. But I’m not in the movie,” he told Jimmy Kimmel. When the host pressed further, Cox doubled down, saying, “I’m definitely not in the movie,” before adding with a smirk, “But I could be lying.”

The conversation then shifted to Avengers: Doomsday. This time, Cox’s tone appeared slightly different. “I don’t think so. No… as far as I know, I’m not in the Avengers,” he stated. He then joked that he “sits by the phone waiting with bated breath” for a call.

Fans immediately noticed the contrast between his playful, theatrical denial regarding Spider-Man and the more resigned, uncertain tone he used when discussing Doomsday. This difference has led many to believe that while Daredevil might skip the Avengers-level threat for now, a crossover with Spider-Man is almost guaranteed.

Andrew Garfield Comparison Makes Fans Skeptical

The skepticism surrounding Cox’s comments is rooted in recent MCU history. Andrew Garfield famously spent nearly two years denying his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, only to appear in the film as Peter Parker from an alternate universe. Garfield later admitted to lying to protect the surprise, saying in an interview that he lied to the internet for two years and found it fun to keep the secret.

Cox is now facing the same level of disbelief. Following his recent statements, social media lit up with comparisons to Garfield. Fans argue that if Marvel is willing to go to such lengths to keep a multiversal secret, hiding a simple crossover between Matt Murdock and Peter Parker would be easy.

Adding fuel to the fire are the clues hidden in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer. Sharp-eyed viewers noticed that during a sequence where Spider-Man faces a group of red-clad Hand ninjas, the frame appears digitally altered. Some figures seem to have been removed, leading to speculation that Marvel edited a character—likely Daredevil—out of the footage to preserve a surprise.

Story Hints Point to a Daredevil Crossover

The plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day provides plenty of reasons for Daredevil to show up. The trailer confirmed the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, a character who shares a deep history with Matt Murdock from the Netflix series.

More importantly, the trailer heavily features the Hand, the ancient ninja organization that served as the main antagonists in the original Daredevil series and The Defenders. Daredevil has the deepest history with these villains in the MCU. Bringing the Hand into a Spider-Man movie without including the hero who has fought them for years would be a narrative gap that Marvel rarely leaves unfilled.

There are also political connections. The trailer shows Zabryna Guevara reprising her role as Sheila Rivera, a political advisor to Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) from Daredevil: Born Again. Her presence suggests the movie will address the aftermath of Fisk’s mayoral tenure, a storyline expected to wrap up in the upcoming second season of Cox’s show.

What Cox Is Focusing on Right Now

While the movie rumors swirl, Charlie Cox is busy preparing for the return of his own series. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on March 25, 2026. The show has already been renewed for a third season, which is set to release in 2027.

During a panel at New York Comic-Con, Cox told Brandon Davis of ComicBook.com, “I’m not in Spider-Man,” and when asked about Avengers, he replied, “No, I’m just concentrating on DD right now.” When Davis expressed doubt, Cox simply responded, “We’ll see.”

That ambiguity has kept fans hopeful. Marvel Studios has a history of keeping major cameos under wraps until the film hits theaters. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day scheduled for release on July 26, 2026, and Avengers: Doomsday arriving even earlier on May 1, 2026, it may only be a few months before audiences know for sure whether the Man Without Fear is hiding in plain sight.
