Choo Young Woo and Cho Yi Hyun reunite in the new fantasy romance K-drama Head Over Heels, sharing their close bond and on-screen chemistry.
The actors, who previously worked together in School 2021, have grown closer while filming their new series. In an exclusive interview, Choo Young Woo opened up about their friendship, his role, and his thoughts on love and fate.
Choo Young Woo and Cho Yi Hyunโs Strong Friendship
Choo Young Woo revealed that working with Cho Yi Hyun again made their friendship stronger. He said their conversations became more personal compared to when they first met.
“We used to mostly have small talk, but since we spent so much time together this time, our conversations became more casualโlike what we ate, whether we got enough sleep, or how we were feeling.”
He also shared a fun fact about how he saved her name in his phoneโsimply as “Yi Hyun.” Meanwhile, Cho Yi Hyun has him saved as “School 2021 Choo Young Woo 99.”
Choo Young Woo on His Character and Real-Life Luck
In Head Over Heels, Choo Young Woo plays Bae Gyeon Woo, a high school student with terrible luck. His characterโs fate is tied to Cho Yi Hyunโs character, Park Seong A, a shaman who tries to save him.
When asked about his own luck in real life, he said:
“I canโt point to a specific day, but sometimes misfortune comes all at once. I remember times when one bad thing led to another, and the whole day just felt like a string of unlucky events.”
He also talked about how he prepares for different roles. After playing a doctor in The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, he switched back to a high school student for this drama. He said he never gets confused because he fully immerses himself in each character.
Would He Risk His Life for Love?
One of the key themes in Head Over Heels is sacrifice for love. When asked if he would risk his life for someone he loves, Choo Young Woo gave a heartfelt answer.
“However it happens, I think just meeting someone you truly love is fate. If I met a fate like that, I think Iโd be willing to risk my life for them.”
Behind the Scenes of Head Over Heels
Choo Young Woo shared that the most challenging scenes were the underwater and fire sequences. He also talked about how he would play Cho Yi Hyunโs character if they swapped roles.
“Iโd focus on highlighting Seong Aโs double life. Iโd make sure to clearly show the contrast between her life as a shaman and as a regular student.”
He also joked that if Cho Yi Hyun had a double life outside acting, she would be a professional gamer with the alias “Seong A.”
