The hit true-crime comedy Only Murders in the Building is officially packing its bags for an international adventure. Season 6 will transport the beloved podcasting trio from New York’s Arconia to the historic, foggy streets of London. The show’s creator has explained that the move is a deliberate creative choice to reconnect with the roots of the murder mystery genre and shake up the series with a brand-new setting.

The renewal for a ten-episode sixth season was officially confirmed by Hulu on October 28, 2025, the same day the Season 5 finale aired. This new chapter marks the show’s first full season set outside the United States, promising a fresh backdrop of iconic landmarks, new characters, and a case that connects back to the very beginning of the trio’s crime-solving journey.

Why the Show is Changing Location to London

Series co-creator and showrunner John Hoffman revealed that the move to London is deeply tied to the show’s themes of storytelling and mystery. He explained that London is the historic home of legendary mystery writers like Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle. Placing the modern, true-crime podcasters in the birthplace of the classic “cozy” murder mystery creates a compelling narrative clash.

“Fiction-meets-true crime storytelling and podcasting became really intriguing to me, to mix those two worlds,” Hoffman told Variety. “It’s the land of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle, combined with our podcasters and what they’ve been successful with. Marrying those things in the place where the cozy murder mystery began felt really intriguing.”

The decision also comes after Season 5 delved deeply into the characters’ connection to their home, the Arconia building, and New York City itself. Hoffman stated that taking the trio out of their comfort zone and making them “fish in new waters” would inject a fresh jolt of energy into the series. The move allows the show to explore a new culture while its characters navigate a mystery steeped in tradition.

How the Season 5 Finale Sets Up the London Mystery

The final moments of Season 5 directly set the stage for the London relocation. After solving the murder of their doorman, Lester, Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) listen to a new podcast from their rival, Cinda Canning (Tina Fey).

Cinda’s podcast, “The Girl With the Curls,” is based in London and involves a woman accused of killing a royal descendant. As the trio listens, the show cuts to a woman with red curls, matching the description from the podcast, fleeing through New York streets before collapsing and dying right at the gates of the Arconia. She is revealed to be Cinda Canning herself.

This shocking cliffhanger means that Season 6 will center on the trio investigating Cinda’s death. Her connection to a London-based mystery is what will pull them across the pond. Hoffman noted that going back to Cinda, the podcaster who originally inspired them to start their own show, brings the series full circle.

“The character of Cinda started everything, so we’re going back to the beginning,” Hoffman said to Deadline. “So the nature of what she’s doing, what she is doing over in Englandโ€ฆ it’s an opportunity to tease something that opens up a whole new mystery in the home of the cozy murder mystery.”

What to Expect in the New London Setting

The London setting opens up many new possibilities for the show. Creators can introduce a host of new British characters and guest stars. Hoffman expressed excitement about the chance to work with great British actors and the cultural clash that will arise from placing the American trio in a new environment.

While the Arconia has been a central character, the show will adapt its formula. The “building” in the title will remain relevant, as the new season is expected to feature a historic London location that serves a similar purpose. The producers have confirmed that the core trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez will all return.

The show has been praised for its high-profile guest stars, and the move to London suggests a new roster of talent could be joining. Previous seasons have featured stars like Meryl Streep, Renรฉe Zellweger, and Christoph Waltz. The new setting makes it likely that well-known British actors will appear in Season 6.

The Future of the Series

While the upcoming season is a significant shift, it does not necessarily mean the end of the series. When asked about how long the show could continue, John Hoffman indicated that the team plans to keep going as long as the stories feel fresh and the audience remains engaged.

“The only way I look at the ending of this series is when we’re genuinely out of turns that take us into deeper territory,” Hoffman stated. He added that they would continue as long as the cast is on board and Disney allows them to make the show.

Fans can expect Season 6 to follow the show’s usual schedule, with a likely premiere in the fall of 2026 on Hulu. The first five seasons are currently available to stream on the platform.
