Production has quietly started on Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, and already fans are spotting some major changes coming for both Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. The new season is shaping up to give both characters looks audiences have never seen before in live action.

Charlie Cox confirmed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he has begun filming the third season. He showed up on the talk show with a full beard, telling host Jimmy Kimmel, “I finished shooting at 7 PM last night in New York on Season 3. I’m doing an action sequence, and I’m getting cut a lot [in the scene].”

That beard has become a major talking point among Marvel fans. For weeks, Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio (who plays Kingpin) had been dodging questions about their facial hair during press rounds for the upcoming Season 2. Now it is confirmed—both actors are growing out their facial hair for the next chapter of the story.

Why Matt Murdock Is Growing a Beard

The bearded look for Matt Murdock is not random. The comics provide a clear answer. During Chip Zdarsky’s acclaimed run on Daredevil, the character grew facial hair while going through a major shift in his life. In those comics, Matt teamed up with Elektra to fight The Hand, a mystical ninja organization.

The timing adds weight to this theory. The Hand recently appeared in the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, suggesting Marvel Studios is building toward something involving the group. If Season 3 adapts Zdarsky’s story, fans could see Matt working alongside Elektra while sporting the new bearded look.

Another theory floating around is that both Matt and Fisk could end up in prison during Season 3. An incarceration arc would naturally explain why both characters have beards—a sign of time served behind bars. With filming just beginning, Marvel appears to be planning something big for the third season.

Wilson Fisk’s Changing Appearance

Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk is also getting a fresh look for the upcoming season. During press for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, D’Onofrio appeared with a beard and a noticeably leaner frame than previous seasons. Some fans initially thought he had lost weight for the role, but the actor explained he used lightweight prosthetics inspired by NASA technology to achieve a different physical presence for Kingpin.

This change fits the character’s journey. In Season 2 of Born Again, Fisk becomes the mayor of New York City. He steps away from his iconic white suit and wears darker, more formal clothing. The white suit had always represented the contrast between his “clean” public image and his violent criminal actions. As mayor, his new look reflects his desire for legitimacy and control through politics rather than outright crime.

But make no mistake—the violent side of Kingpin remains. In Season 2, fresh wounds on his hands show that even as mayor, he is still willing to use violence to maintain power. That dual nature—the respected politician and the brutal crime lord—makes him more dangerous than ever.

How Season 3 Connects to the Comics

The changes coming in Season 3 point to specific comic book storylines. Zdarsky’s Daredevil run, where Matt grows the beard, is widely considered one of the best modern Daredevil stories. In that run, Matt faces challenges that push him to his limits both physically and mentally.

The possible prison storyline also has roots in the comics. Both Matt and Fisk have spent time behind bars in various storylines over the years. Seeing them in prison together would create intense drama, especially given their complicated history.

The third season is moving into production before Season 2 has even premiered. Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again arrives on Disney+ on March 24, 2026. Marvel Studios is clearly confident in the direction of the show, already moving ahead with the next installment while fans wait to see how the current season unfolds.

What Season 2 Sets Up

The events of Season 2 will likely connect directly to these new looks. In the first season of Born Again, Matt Murdock retired as Daredevil after Bullseye killed his best friend Foggy Nelson. He stayed away from the costume until circumstances forced him back into action in the sixth episode.

Season 2 picks up with Matt navigating his return as a vigilante while Fisk operates as mayor. The tension between them remains central to the story. But Season 3 seems to be pushing both characters into new territory—literally giving them new faces to match the next phase of their conflict.

With filming already happening on New York streets, more set photos and details will likely surface in the coming weeks. For now, fans know one thing for certain: when Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 arrives, Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk will look nothing like they did before.
