Fans of the original Daredevil series on Netflix have always had a soft spot for Karen Page, the tenacious reporter who stood by Matt Murdock through thick and thin. When Marvel Studios brought the series back as Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, many viewers were worried about how much screen time Deborah Ann Wollโs character would actually get, especially after the shocking death of Foggy Nelson in the very first episode. Now, with the second season fast approaching, the showrunner is making one thing very clear: Karen Page is not just coming back, she is coming back in a big way that will leave fans shocked in the best possible way.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in March 2026, and the creative team behind the series is promising that Deborah Ann Wollโs Karen will have a role that redefines what viewers expect from the character. After a first season that saw her largely absent following Foggyโs death, the second outing is positioning Karen as a central figure in the resistance against Wilson Fiskโs mayoral reign of terror.
Showrunner Promises Surprising Developments for Karen Page
Dario Scardapane, who serves as showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again, has directly addressed fan concerns about Karenโs role in the series. When questions arose about whether the character would have a reduced presence following the dramatic events of the first season, Scardapane pushed back firmly against that notion.
“Limited presence I would question,” Scardapane said in response to fans wondering about Karenโs future. “There are things to be revealed. Because it is this [superhero] world, donโt count everything out quite yet. There are returns that I think are surprising and inevitable”.
This tease from the showrunner suggests that Karenโs journey in Season 2 will take unexpected turns that connect back to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe in ways fans havenโt anticipated. The word “surprising” is key here, indicating that whatever path Karen takes, it wonโt be what longtime viewers of the character expect.
Scardapane was also very clear about why characters like Karen and Foggy are essential to the showโs identity. When he first came onto the project during the creative overhaul, he made it clear that the series couldnโt work without them.
“That was actually one of the first things I said to the bosses: You canโt do this show without Karen and Foggy. Theyโre Mattโs family. Theyโre the heart of his world. You canโt take them out without explaining why, and if that explanation doesnโt ring true, donโt take them out.”
“I was willing to lose a job over this one. Because season 3 of the Netflix show ended with a dream, with the names on that napkin. If you donโt pay that off, youโre not giving your characters context. You canโt ignore that dream.”
This commitment to the core trio of characters has paid off, with production on Season 2 running much smoother than the complicated reshoot-heavy first season.
Matt and Karen Reunite as Partners in the Resistance
The dynamic between Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Karen Page is set to shift dramatically in the upcoming season. Rather than keeping Karen on the sidelines, the writers are positioning her as Mattโs active partner in fighting back against Wilson Fisk (Vincent DโOnofrio), who has used his position as mayor of New York City to outlaw vigilantes and round up his political enemies.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, confirmed on The Official Marvel Podcast that Karen will step in as the superhero’s “partner” in the second season. This represents a major upgrade from the first season, where Karen spent most of her time in San Francisco, completely cut off from Matt following Foggyโs death.
The new season finds New York City under the tight control of Mayor Fisk. Vigilantes are outlawed, citizens are afraid to speak out, and Matt Murdock is forced to operate from the shadows. In this oppressive environment, Karen becomes his link to the surface world and the resistance movement.
Charlie Cox recently explained the situation his character finds himself in during the new season:
“We are living in a very oppressive, claustrophobic New York. Youโre frightened to be out, to be seen. You canโt voice your concerns, your desire for changeโฆ Itโs very French Resistance.”
Set photos have already surfaced showing a disguised Matt and a wig-clad Karen navigating the streets of Hellโs Kitchen together, suggesting they are working as a team to undermine Fiskโs regime from within. This imagery of the two characters as underground resistance fighters is a far cry from the reporter and lawyer duo fans remember from the Netflix days.
Charlie Cox Praises Deborah Ann Wollโs Expanded Role
Charlie Cox, who has played Matt Murdock since 2015, couldnโt hide his excitement when talking about what Deborah Ann Woll brings to the second season. In recent interviews, he has made it clear that fans will see a lot more of Karen, and that the material Woll has to work with this season is among the best of her entire run as the character.
“We are living in a very oppressive, claustrophobic New York,” Cox told TVLine, before teasing that fans can expect “a lot more” of Woll in the second season.
“Thank God. Some of the stuff sheโs up to is some of the coolest stuff sheโs ever had. Sheโs amazing in this season.”
Considering that Deborah Ann Woll has appeared in all three seasons of the original Daredevil, as well as The Punisher and The Defenders, this high praise from her co-star suggests that Season 2 will give her material that stands out even among her extensive history with the character.
Cox has also spoken about how important Karen and Foggy are to the fabric of the show. During a panel at Fan Expo Cleveland, he reflected on what it was like when the first season of Born Again was being developed without them.
“We shot the show, and they werenโt involved at that point, and we really didnโt know what was going to happen with their character, or I didnโt know at least. It felt bittersweet. I always think you canโt underestimate the importance of Foggy and Karen in terms of the tone they set for that show. They are the center that allows Matt to go off and do these things and they give stakes to what he does, just in terms of storytelling.”
The actor also noted the special circumstances of reuniting with Woll and Elden Henson for the scenes that eventually made it into the first season.
“Theyโre so beautifully portrayed by Deborah and Elden. It was pretty special having them come back. It was ironic because with that first scene with them, weโre reminiscing over the past because that made sense for the story, but it was also true for us, because we hadnโt seen each other for a long time. We hadnโt been on camera for years and so we were there reminiscing over the past.”
Romance May Be Back on the Table for Matt and Karen
One of the most talked-about aspects of the new season, based on behind-the-scenes photos and teaser trailers, is the possible rekindling of romance between Matt and Karen. The original Netflix series danced around their attraction for years, with moments of connection always interrupted by the dangerous lives they led.
Recent leaked photos from the set show Matt and Karen holding hands, sparking speculation that their relationship may finally move forward in a meaningful way. This would make sense given the high-stress situation they find themselves in. When people are fighting for their lives and their city against an oppressive regime, emotions tend to run high.
The teaser trailer released by Marvel Studios has fans already celebrating what they are calling the “Karedevil” resurgence. Social media lit up with excitement at the prospect of Matt and Karen working closely together again.
One fan exclaimed on social media, “KAREDEVIL ENDGAME,” while another posted, “Seeing Matt and Karen together again, leading a resistance, is going to give me so much life”. The enthusiasm is understandable, as their chemistry was one of the most beloved elements of the original series.
In the first season of Born Again, Matt had moved on to a new relationship with Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva), but that ended dramatically when Heatherโs father was revealed to be connected to Fiskโs operations. With that relationship in the rearview mirror and Karen back in New York, the path is clear for the writers to explore what has always been simmering between these two characters.
What Karenโs Bigger Role Means for the Story
With Karen stepping up as Mattโs partner in the resistance, her journalistic skills will likely take center stage. In the original series, Karen was never just a damsel in distress. She was an investigative reporter who dug up secrets that powerful people wanted buried, often putting herself in danger to uncover the truth.
In the context of Fiskโs authoritarian crackdown on New York, a free press willing to expose the truth becomes a dangerous weapon. Karenโs role as a reporter who can rally public opinion and expose Fiskโs corruption makes her just as valuable to the resistance as Daredevilโs fists.
Sana Amanat, one of the producers on the series, described the creative freedom the team had while making the second season. After the awkward reset of the first season, where existing footage had to be stitched together with new material, Season 2 allowed the writers to craft the story they wanted from the ground up.
“The landscape was open, and that was so liberating,” Amanat told Empire magazine. “We were like, ‘We can do whatever we want’”.
This freedom means that Karenโs surprising journey in Season 2 wasnโt constrained by the need to fix problems from the first season. Instead, the writers could map out exactly where they wanted the character to go and how her actions would impact the larger battle against Fisk.
The Mystery of Foggy Nelsonโs Return
While Karenโs expanded role is excellent news for fans, it comes alongside the complicated return of Foggy Nelson. Elden Hensonโs character was brutally murdered by Bullseye in the first episode of Born Again, a death that Matt heard happen in real-time through his enhanced senses. Foggyโs heartbeat slowed and stopped while Matt was powerless to save him.
Yet Marvel TV chief Brad Winderbaum has confirmed that Elden Henson will return as Foggy in Season 2. This has led to intense speculation among fans about how this is possible.
“I don’t think there’s a Matt Murdock story without [Karen and Foggy], and I’m excited to see them both in Season 2 as well,” Winderbaum said.
The most likely explanation, based on the comics, is that Foggyโs death was faked as part of a witness protection program. In the “The Devil, Inside and Out” comic book storyline by Ed Brubaker, Foggy fakes his death to enter witness protection, leaving Matt to grieve unnecessarily. This would explain why Karen left for San Francisco and cut ties with Mattโshe may have been in on the secret and had to maintain distance to protect Foggy.
Alternatively, Foggy could appear in flashbacks or dream sequences. But given Winderbaumโs phrasing that the story canโt exist without “both” Karen and Foggy, a permanent death seems unlikely.
Fans have had mixed reactions to this news, with some questioning how the show can walk back such a major death. One fan commented, “The math isnโt mathing tbh,” while another asked, “Did we all watch the same first episode or?”. Regardless of how the writers explain it, Foggyโs presence will add another layer to Karenโs storyline in Season 2.
When and Where to Watch Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is set to debut on Disney+ in March 2026. Unlike the first season, which had nine episodes, the second season will consist of eight episodes, suggesting a tighter, more focused story.
The show will be available to stream on Disney+ in all regions where the service operates, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India. For viewers in regions without Disney+, specific broadcast arrangements may vary, but the series is expected to have wide international availability through the platform.
The season is part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and follows directly from the events of the first season, where Mayor Fisk declared martial law and outlawed vigilantism. With New York City under the control of the Kingpin, Matt, Karen, and their allies must find a way to fight back.
