The Australian crime-comedy series Deadloch has done it again. Just days after its Season 2 premiere on Prime Video, the show has secured a flawless 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, matching the perfect rating achieved by its first season. The series, created by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan (known together as The Kates), premiered on March 20, 2026, and critics are already calling it one of the funniest shows on television right now.
Critics Call Season 2 Even Better Than the First
The six-part crime comedy returns with detectives Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) leaving Tasmania’s chilly shores for Australia’s sweltering Northern Territory. The move to what the creators call the “Tropical Gothic era” has paid off, with reviewers praising the show’s sharp writing and the chemistry between its leads.
Benji Wilson of the Daily Telegraph (UK) wrote, “This is one croc-and-bull story that’s funny, at times silly, but also decidedly worthwhile.” Peter Gray of The AU Review stated, “Even when it threatens to sprawl, Deadloch remains one of the most distinctive and exciting series on Australian television.”
“The blistering finale of this big and bolshie show will prove (once again) that co-creators Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney are some of the most exciting creatives working in Australian TV today.”
— Meg Watson, The Age
Shannon Connellan of Mashable highlighted the creative duo’s influence, saying, “Supercharging Deadloch with their signature sharp comedy writing, McCartney and McLennan once again contrast Redcliffe and Box as sublime buddy cops.”
The West Australian’s Screen Queen review gave the new season a full five-star rating, declaring it “far and away the funniest thing you’ll see on TV right now” and noting that Box and Sami remain standouts—“you’d be hard-pressed to find a better pair of TV detectives.”
Luke Hemsworth Joins Cast as Season Moves to the Top End
The new season transports viewers to Barra Creek, a remote town in the Northern Territory where Dulcie and Eddie arrive to investigate the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy. When a body part surfaces in the local waters, the detectives find themselves caught between crocodile-fueled tourism, stretched Indigenous rangers, and locals who seem to have plenty of secrets.
Joining the returning cast of Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama, and Alicia Gardiner is Luke Hemsworth (Westworld, Thor: Love and Thunder). The elder Hemsworth brother plays Jason Wade, a wildlife park owner and local celebrity. The cast also includes Steve Bisley (Mad Max), Shari Sebbens (The Sapphires), and acclaimed writer-director Jean Tong making their acting debut.
