Netflix has revealed the first look at the characters in its upcoming historical romance drama, “Dear Hongrang,” starring Lee Jae Wook, Jo Bo Ah, and Jung Ga Ram. The drama is part of Netflix’s South Korean content lineup for the second quarter of 2025, and the newly released stills have generated significant excitement among fans.
A Mystery of Love and Hidden Agendas
“Dear Hongrang” centers around the character of Hongrang, played by Lee Jae Wook, who disappears at the age of eight and returns twelve years later, a changed man. The newly released stills depict Lee Jae Wook focused on archery, embodying the image of a skilled warrior. Jo Bo Ah looks elegant in traditional Korean hanbok, as does Jung Ga Ram, who plays the role of Moo Jin.
Other stills feature Uhm Ji Won as Hongrang’s mother, Min Yeon Ui, and Park Byung Eun as the elite Sim Yeol Kook. Min Yeon Ui, a powerful figure in the merchants’ association, exudes authority in her still, hinting at the challenges she faces after her son’s disappearance.
The drama follows Jae Yi, Hongrang’s stepsister, as she searches for him during his missing years. When he finally returns, he harbors secrets and desires, including complex feelings for Jae Yi that may extend beyond sibling love. Jae Yi, in turn, suspects that the man who has returned may not be the real Hongrang, even as she finds herself falling for him.
Adapted from the novel of the same name, “Dear Hongrang” promises a fresh perspective on the historical drama genre. The characters grapple with the consequences of their hidden motives while navigating intricate relationships and exploring the complexities of love.
