Collaboration and Direction

In a recent interview with Wikitree, Lee Jae Wook discussed the kiss scene, noting its intensity compared to kiss scenes in the first season. He playfully blushed again as he credited the drama’s director, Park Joon Hwa, for its impact.

First, director Park Joon Hwa wanted the kiss scene to be pretty. I spoke in depth about the kiss scene with Director Park for a week. I tried to express details in the scene, such as nudging (Go Youn Jung) against the wall.

Lee Jae Wook explained that the scene was a collaborative effort between the actors and the director.

The (character’s) dialogue before the kiss scene was about how the two won’t ever see each other again. (Therefore) we considered how we could best (express) the scene, and started by nudging (Go Youn Jung) against the wall and started building the scene from there.

He expressed gratitude towards his co-stars and directors for their trust in him and his portrayal of Jang Uk.

“Alchemy of Souls” aired in two seasons. The first season comprised 20 episodes, while the second season had 10. The drama enjoyed considerable popularity both in Korea, achieving a 9.6% viewer rating, and internationally, ranking high on Netflix’s global charts.
