Dhanush, the versatile actor and director, is gearing up for the release of his 50th film as the lead actor, Raayan. The film, which is written and directed by Dhanush himself, is produced by Sun Pictures and has music by the legendary A. R. Rahman. Raayan is an action thriller that promises to be raw and rustic yet emotional, as per the words of SJ Suryah, who plays the role of the main antagonist in the film.
The first look poster of Raayan was unveiled by Dhanush on February 19, 2024, on his social platform X. The poster featured Dhanush, Kalidas Jayaram, and Sundeep Kishan, standing in front of a food truck, with bloodied aprons. They were also seen carrying sharp tools including machetes, skewers, and knives. The poster created a lot of curiosity among the fans and the audience, as it hinted at a dark and violent theme for the film.
On February 21, 2024, Dhanush revealed another poster of the film, introducing SJ Suryah as the villain. The poster showed SJ Suryah sitting on a chair with a glass in his hand, in a monochrome tone. The backdrop showed a lot of containers, suggesting a harbour-based gangster role for SJ Suryah. Dhanush wrote, “#Raayan Had great fun directing you @iam_SJSuryah sir (hands with smile emoji).”
SJ Suryah also expressed his gratitude to Dhanush and wrote, “Sirrrrrr it’s a bliss acting in Ur direction @dhanushkraja sirrrrrr thx for the opportunity and this tweet of Urs too & friends, as I mentioned earlier RAAYAN is Raw & Rustic yet emotional in international standard summer treat thx a lot @sunpictures and team (eyes with heart emoji).”
Raayan marks the second directorial venture of Dhanush, after his debut film Pa. Paandi (2017), which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Director (Tamil). The film also marks the first collaboration of Dhanush and A. R. Rahman, who have previously worked together as actor and composer in films like Raanjhanaa (2013) and Shamitabh (2015). The film also features Nithya Menen, Aparna Balamurali, Anikha Surendran, Selvaraghavan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Vishal Reddy in important roles. The film has cinematography by Om Prakash and editing by Prasanna GK.
Raayan Release Date and Languages
Raayan is slated to release in 2024, in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi languages. The exact date of release is yet to be announced by the makers. The film is expected to be a summer treat for the fans of Dhanush and SJ Suryah, who are known for their versatile and impressive performances.
