DJ Khaled, the famous music producer and rapper, has sparked outrage on social media after he posted a video of himself being carried by two bodyguards over sand so that he wouldn’t dirty his Nike Air Jordan sneakers. The video, which was shared on his Instagram account on Monday, showed Khaled asking for help from his security personnel as he got out of his luxury car to perform at the 2024 South Beach Wine and Food Festival in Miami.
‘I don’t want to get my Jordans dirty’
In the video, DJ Khaled can be seen opening his car door and looking down at the ground. He then waves over his bodyguards and says, “I don’t want to get my Jordans dirty. Can I get everybody to help me?” Two men then come over and lift him up by his legs, placing him in the back of a pick-up truck that takes him to the beach-side stage. Khaled thanks them and says, “Can’t mess up the Js.”
The same bodyguards then carry him again from the truck to the stage’s steps, where DJ Khaled thanks them again before making his way to greet the hundreds of waiting fans with his hit song “All I Do is Win.”
‘Disrespectful’ and ‘ridiculous’
The video, which has been viewed over 2 million times, has received a lot of negative comments from fans and critics who called Khaled’s behavior “disrespectful”, “ridiculous”, and “stupid”. Many people pointed out that the bodyguards were struggling to carry the 48-year-old, who weighs around 400 pounds, and that they were not paid enough for that. Others suggested that DJ Khaled should have worn sandals or changed his shoes before walking on stage. Some also questioned his humility and gratitude, as he often talks about God and his blessings.
“Them security guards were struggling,” one user wrote. “Guards don’t get paid enough for dat,” another commented. “That’s the stupidest thing I have seen! Get off your f–king high horse,” a third user said. “I have no respect for you! This is ridiculous that a grown oversized man would do this. He talks so much about god and behaves like this over a pair of shoes. Ridiculous!” a fourth user added.
Not the first controversy for DJ Khaled
This is not the first time that DJ Khaled has been in the hot seat for his controversial statements or actions. In 2015, he made headlines for admitting that he doesn’t perform oral sex on women because he believes that the man is the king and the woman should praise him.
He said in an interview on the “Breakfast Club” radio show, “A woman should praise the man — the king. If you holding it down for your woman I feel like the woman should praise. And a man should praise the queen. But you know, my way of praising is called, ha-ha, ‘How was dinner?’, ‘You like the house you living in? You like all them clothes you getting? I’m taking care of your family, I’m taking care of my family…’ You know, I’m putting in the work.”
Khaled, who has won two Grammy awards and collaborated with many popular artists such as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Drake, and Justin Bieber, is known for his catchphrases such as “We the best”, “Another one”, and “Bless up”. He is also a successful entrepreneur, having launched his own record label, clothing line, and furniture collection. He is currently working on his 13th studio album, which he claims will be his best one yet.
