The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again dropped a bombshell that left Marvel fans reeling. Foggy Nelson, the beloved best friend and law partner of Matt Murdock, was killed off within the first 15 minutes. While many expected actor Elden Henson to be upset about leaving the role he played since 2015, he recently shared a surprisingly positive take on how his character exited the series.

Speaking at C2E2 2026 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo), Henson opened up about reading the script where Foggy dies at the hands of Bullseye. Instead of anger or disappointment, he felt something else entirely.

“When I read [the scene], I actually thought it was a really great scene. I was into it. It’s a bummer when something comes to an end. I don’t know, I felt pretty lucky to have played him, and at least there was some sort of closure.”

Henson Jokes About Running Over Kevin Feige’s Foot

The actor also had a funny explanation for why Marvel decided to kill off his character. After a fan told him how sad viewers were about Foggy’s death, Henson reportedly joked: “I think it’s because I ran Kevin Feige’s foot over with my car.”

The joke spread quickly across social media, with fans appreciating Henson’s ability to laugh about the situation. It showed that despite losing a role he clearly loved, the actor holds no hard feelings toward Marvel Studios or its president.

Charlie Cox Calls Foggy’s Death ‘Traumatic’

While Henson made peace with the decision, his co-star Charlie Cox (who plays Matt Murdock/Daredevil) had a much harder time accepting it. Cox has played opposite Henson for years, and their on-screen friendship was the heart of the original Netflix series.

“I haven’t read a huge amount of other comics outside of Daredevil, but I struggle to think of a more beautiful, obvious friendship than the Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson friendship. The loss of Foggy and the loss of Elden, my friend on set every day, that’s traumatic. It’s hard.”

Cox also previously told fans that Foggy is definitely gone. At La Conve Monterrey, he shot down theories that Foggy faked his death. “Daredevil heard his heart stop. He’s dead. I’m sorry. I’m very sad. I am. I love that theory, but it’s wrong,” Cox stated.

Why Marvel Decided to Kill Off Foggy Nelson

The show’s creative team didn’t make this choice lightly. Dario Scardapane, the showrunner, explained that Foggy’s death serves as the main reason why Matt Murdock gives up being Daredevil for five years. Without that massive loss, Matt wouldn’t have a believable reason to walk away from his vigilante life.

Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who filmed the death scene, admitted they felt nervous about being responsible for killing such a beloved character.

“When we were talking about [Foggy’s death], there was a moment where we went a little quiet and made long eye contact, as it sunk in that we were responsible for photographing the killing of one of our favorite characters from one of our favorite shows.”

He added that Henson gave them his blessing “as long as we took it very seriously, and it wasn’t just meant to be something shocking.”

Fan Theories About Foggy’s Return Continue Despite Evidence

Even after Cox confirmed Foggy’s death, fans keep searching for clues that he might still be alive. A major point of debate is the address number 468 shown in the episode. In the Daredevil comics, issue #468 revealed that Foggy survived a stabbing and entered witness protection.

When asked about this theory, Moorhead played it safe: “I’ve heard this theory, you eagle-eyed geniuses. I would love to tell you, however, Marvel will snipe me if I say anything else.”

Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum has confirmed that both Henson and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) will return for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. However, this likely means flashback scenes or dream sequences, not a full resurrection.

Henson’s Creative Idea for Foggy’s Return as an Angel

During the C2E2 panel, a fan asked Henson what storyline he would want for Foggy moving forward. The actor gave a fun answer that didn’t require undoing the character’s death.

“I think it’d be cool if Foggy became an angel and had wings and would just fly around. Be there but not really be there. Just kind of watching over Matt. Be like, ‘I love you, man. Don’t get hurt! Duck! Stick and move! Stick and move!’”

Cox joined in with his own idea, suggesting Foggy could be resurrected by Elektra to lead The Hand. Both actors clearly enjoy thinking about their characters, even after Foggy’s story seemingly ended.

What Happens in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
