With Emily in Paris Season 5 arriving on December 18, fans are preparing for Emily Cooper’s next chapter. This season promises to be different as Emily trades Parisian rooftops for Roman ruins. The new episodes are a “tale of two cities,” focusing on Rome and Paris. Before diving into the new Italian adventures, here is everything you need to remember from the pivotal events of Season 4.
How Emily’s Paris Chapter Ended
Season 4 of Emily in Paris was a season of major decisions and surprising turns. It fundamentally changed the setting for the story ahead.
The main story began with a significant business shift. Emily’s boss, Sylvie Grateau, successfully launched her own firm, Agence Grateau. This move reunited Emily with her former Savoir colleagues, Julien and Luc, under Sylvie’s leadership.
Emily’s personal life was more complicated than ever. She was in an on-again, off-again relationship with the British banker Alfie. At the same time, her longtime will-they-won’t-they connection with her neighbor, the chef Gabriel, remained a powerful force.
A key event was a work trip to the Alps. While there, Emily met Marcello, a charming Italian heir to a luxury cashmere brand. Their instant connection planted the seeds for a major change. To secure a business contract with Marcello’s family company, Sylvie later made a bold proposal to Emily. She asked Emily to move to Rome and open an Italian office for Agence Grateau.
The Finale’s Major Twists and a New Beginning
The two-part Season 4 finale delivered several shocks that directly set the stage for the upcoming season. Emily’s relationship with Gabriel reached a turning point. After a romantic reconnection, Gabriel abruptly left Emily stranded during a trip. He rushed back to Paris upon hearing that his ex-girlfriend, Camille, might be pregnant. This action deeply hurt Emily and made her question her place in his life.
Gabriel’s choice had major consequences. Camille’s pregnancy turned out to be a false alarm. Realizing his mistake, Gabriel had an epiphany in the final moments of the season. He understood that he truly wanted to be with Emily after all. However, his realization seemed to come too late.
Tired of not being a priority, Emily made a decisive move. She accepted Sylvie’s offer and left Paris for Rome. She did not go alone. The season ended with Emily beginning a new romantic adventure with Marcello, choosing to explore the potential of this new relationship.
Creator Darren Star explained the shift, saying, “This season is a tale of two cities: Rome and Paris. Straddling both, Emily takes love and life to the next level.”
