What the Story Is About

The plot has a strange but interesting setup. When Sunao Aikawa was seven years old, she created Nao, an exact replica of herself. Sunao stays at home and does not go to school because of past trauma. Nao goes to school in her place. No one notices the difference. Nao sends Sunao daily reports about everything that happens.

This works well for many years. Then one day, Nao falls in love. Shuya Sanada, a classmate who joins the Literature Club, shares Nao’s taste in books. They bond over their conversations. But there is a big problem. Nao only exists when Sunao wants her to. She also now has feelings and goals that are different from Sunao’s.

The story follows Nao as she tries to hide her relationship from Sunao. Meanwhile, Sunao starts to notice changes in her replica and becomes more unhappy and isolated. One user described the show as “a slow paced anime about a girl that to deal with life’s hardships created her own replica.”
