A new high school romance drama is coming to screens soon, and it has a fun twist. Absolute Value of Romance is a new South Korean series about a student with a big secret. She writes romantic web novels at night, and her stories are about to collide with her real life at school. The show brings together a popular young actress, a K-pop star, and a unique international partnership.
The series is scheduled to premiere in April 2026 on the South Korean streaming service Coupang Play. This project is notable as it marks the first-ever Korean series co-production between Coupang Play and Singapore’s national media network, Mediacorp.
What Is The Story About?
Absolute Value of Romance follows the double life of a high school student named Yeo Eui-ju. By day, she is a normal, quiet student. By night, she secretly writes romance novels online, dreaming of becoming a famous writer. Her stories often feature handsome teachers as the main characters.
Her fictional world suddenly meets reality when four strikingly good-looking new teachers arrive at her school. Eui-ju finds herself having unexpected encounters with them, which turns her ordinary school life into a much more exciting and turbulent experience. The series is described as a youth romance comedy and a coming-of-age story.
Who Are The Main Cast Members?
The drama features a mix of talented young actors and K-pop idols in leading roles.
- Kim Hyang-gi as Yeo Eui-ju: Kim Hyang-gi plays the main character, the student and secret novelist. She is a beloved actress in South Korea who started as a child star. She is known for movies like Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds and Innocent Witness.
- Cha Hak-yeon as Ga Wu-soo: Cha Hak-yeon, also known as N from the K-pop group VIXX, takes on the role of a math teacher. His character, Ga Wu-soo, is a genius with an IQ of 156 and a member of Mensa. He is described as a cold, handsome man who rarely smiles.
- The Handsome Teachers: The other new teachers at the school each have distinct personalities:
- Kim Jae-hyun (from the band N.Flying) plays No Da-ju, a cheerful Japanese language teacher and a mood-maker.
- Sohn Jeong-hyuk plays Jung Gi-jeon, a physical education teacher with a very masculine charm.
- Kim Dong-gyu plays Yoon Dong-ju, a gentle and sweet Korean language teacher.
A special addition to the cast is Gladys Bay, a rising star from Mediacorp in Singapore. She makes her K-drama debut as Jenny, a spirited exchange student from Singapore who becomes Eui-ju’s close friend and confidante.

The series is directed by Lee Tae-gon, who is recognized for his work on popular dramas like True to Love and Diary of a Prosecutor. The script is written by Lee Min-joo, based on an award-winning work from CJ ENM’s ‘PEN 2021’ initiative.
Filming for the series is currently underway in Korea. The partnership between Coupang Play and Mediacorp represents a significant step for both companies in creating content for global audiences.
