F.T. Island’s Hongki has taken to social media to share his thoughts on fellow bandmate Minhwan’s recent prostitution allegations and his divorce from former LABOUM member Yulhee. In a direct and reflective post on Weverse on October 25, Hongki expressed both disappointment and resilience in light of Minhwan’s ongoing controversies.
Hongki Calls for Accountability
In his post, Hongki urged responsibility and transparency, saying:
“It was their private matter, and it’s turned out this way. You should acknowledge your wrongdoings and bow your heads in apology.”
Hongki’s words reflect his belief that accountability is essential, regardless of personal affiliations, and that actions should align with sincere regret and responsibility. His comments suggest a disappointment in the choices Minhwan allegedly made, which have now led to both personal and public fallout.
Message of Resilience Amid Controversy
Hongki also shared words of determination, expressing the importance of perseverance during challenging times. He added:
“Still, we shouldn’t believe everything too easily. I have to hold on and endure. That’s what we must do. What I can do is keep moving forward despite the obstacles.”
Hongki’s statement highlights his commitment to staying strong, likely both for himself and his fans, amid the difficult circumstances. His message suggests an acknowledgment of the emotional toll, yet a desire to remain resilient despite the issues surrounding his bandmate.
Minhwan’s Investigation and FNC Entertainment’s Response
The allegations against Minhwan have been serious enough to prompt a police investigation. Reports indicate that Minhwan may have engaged in soliciting prostitution. Meanwhile, his ex-wife Yulhee has publicly alleged that he frequented hostess bars during their marriage, adding fuel to the controversy.
Previously, in her YouTube video posted on October 24 KST, Yulhee revealed that the ultimate reason she chose to divorce Minhwan was his regular “adult establishment” visits. She also exposed a phone conversation recording between Minhwan and a male acquaintance, where Minhwan was heard saying, “Can you make us a reservation [for a hostess bar]?” and “They say there aren’t any girls there.”
Based on Yulhee’s YouTube video, Choi Minhwan is now facing allegations of soliciting prostitution, a violation of South Korean Laws Against Prostitution. It’s been reported that Choi Minhwan’s case has been assigned to the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, which will begin investigating the case soon.
According to Act 21 of the Laws against Prostitution, individuals who solicit prostitution can face up to 1 year or prison and a fine of up to 3 million KRW.
In response, FNC Entertainment announced that Minhwan would be suspending all media activities for the time being. However, in a somewhat unexpected development, it was confirmed that Minhwan will still perform in F.T. Island’s upcoming concert in Kaohsiung, Taiwan as previously scheduled. This decision has raised questions among fans, with many divided over whether continuing to perform is appropriate under the circumstances.
Fan Reactions to Hongki’s Statement
Fans of F.T. Island have reacted strongly to Hongki’s Weverse post. While some support his message of resilience, others have expressed disappointment over the controversy. Some fans believe Minhwan’s continued participation in the concert contradicts the accountability Hongki called for.
Hongki’s post highlights his efforts to bridge a connection with fans during an uncertain time, while also recognizing the complexity of the situation and urging caution in believing every report. However, fans remain divided as the investigation continues to unfold.
Here are some of the comments:
“Why tell me not to trust so easily? You’re a friend, but you really fell for this nonsense. Lol”
“One bandmate cuts ties, but the other seems to protect them? How can a married man with a family even think about calling someone for that sort of thing at dawn?”
“Why not just keep quiet? This isn’t a minor issue—do you really want all the backlash?”
“Based on the transcript, two people made a reservation. We need to find the friend who joined and confront him.”
“There’s a recording—what are you even trying to say?”
“You’re not exactly young, and this is really shortsighted. If you just stayed quiet, people might sympathize more. Meanwhile, a married man with three kids making hotel plans at dawn and using certain coded words? This is huge. Who exactly are you trying to protect? For those who can’t manage their group, it’s impossible to face the fans and public.”
“There’s clear evidence, so why believe otherwise so easily? Meanwhile, the child’s mother is going through such intense pain—would you just stand by?”
“Is he joking in a situation like this? Is this supposed to be a rap? Haha”
“You didn’t know?? Haha”
