The third episode of Fallout Season 2 brought a major piece of video game lore to life. In Episode 3, “The Profligate,” viewers watched as The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) had a key encounter in the Mojave Wasteland. While searching for help to rescue Lucy MacLean from Caesar’s Legion, he stumbles upon an abandoned New California Republic (NCR) outpost. The only occupant is not a soldier, but a familiar, wheeled robot with a screen for a face: Victor the Securitron. This meeting does more than just introduce a fan-favorite character; it drops major hints about the state of the world and the fate of the mysterious Robert House.
Who Is Victor The Securitron From Fallout: New Vegas?
For fans of the games, Victor’s arrival was a welcome surprise. He is a direct import from the 2010 game Fallout: New Vegas, which serves as a major source of inspiration for this season. Victor is not just any robot. He is a Securitron model 2060-B, a top-heavy security robot manufactured by RobCo Industries that moves on a single wheel and uses its screen to display a personality.
In the game’s story, set 15 years before the TV show’s current timeline of 2296, Victor was given a special job by his creator, Robert House. Because House’s control over his robots was limited outside the city of New Vegas, he installed Victor with a unique, independent personality matrix. This allowed Victor to act as a remote scout, patrolling areas like the town of Goodsprings with a programmed friendly cowboy demeanor. His folksy, “howdy partner” attitude often masked his true purpose: to observe and carry out House’s commands.
Victor played a pivotal role in the game’s story. He was involved in the recovery of the Platinum Chip, a device critical to House’s plans, and was the one who found the game’s protagonist, the Courier, after they were shot and left for dead. His ability to transfer his consciousness to another Securitron body if one was destroyed made him a persistent figure in the Mojave.
What Victor’s Appearance Reveals in Fallout Season 2
The encounter between The Ghoul and Victor in Camp Golf is loaded with information for careful viewers. The Ghoul, whose pre-war identity is Cooper Howard, immediately recognizes Victor, indicating they have a past history. The Ghoul is looking for the NCR, but Victor delivers bad news: “The NCR haven’t been around for some time”. This confirms that the once-powerful republic has severely declined in the Mojave, with its soldiers now just scattered “Rangers up in the hills”.
The conversation then turns to Victor’s creator. When The Ghoul asks what happened to Robert House, Victor’s answer is deliberately vague. He says House is “gone” and laments that his creator’s goal was to “live forever,” but he never explicitly states that House is dead. This ambiguity has led to fan theories that Mr. House might still be alive elsewhere. Victor even suggests that House’s grand plans were disrupted because he never obtained cold fusion technology, and shockingly implies The Ghoul himself was involved in that failure.
“Didn’t you have something to do with all that?” Victor asks The Ghoul, who responds with telling silence.
Perhaps the most curious detail is Victor’s condition. He reveals he’s been sitting in the abandoned camp for about a decade, largely powered down and confused, even thinking he was a soda machine. He claims “somebody did a number on his numbers,” leaving his memory faulty. This raises questions about who or what damaged him and why he was stationed at an old NCR outpost.
