The drama in Edgewater reached a new level of intensity on December 5, 2025, as a surprise family reunion threatened to reopen old wounds and a risky rescue tested loyalties.
In Fire Country Season 4 Episode 7, titled “Best Mom in the World,” Sharon Leone’s life took an unexpected turn with the sudden arrival of her estranged mother, Ruby. The episode, which premiered on CBS on Friday, December 5 at 9 PM ET/PT, balanced this deep-seated family conflict with a high-pressure mission for Bode and Jake. Directed by Alexis Ostrander, the hour delivered powerful moments of character conflict and growth.
Sharon’s Mother Returns Unannounced
Sharon Leone, played by Diane Farr, was stunned when her mother, Ruby Quinn, appeared at her door. Ruby, portrayed by Oscar-winning guest star Christine Lahti, was last mentioned by Sharon’s late husband, Vince. He had revealed he paid Ruby money to stay away from the family, believing her presence was harmful to Sharon. Her unannounced visit forced Sharon to confront painful history and long-held resentment.
Ruby apologized for her past actions, specifically for accepting money from Vince to stay away. She even presented a check to repay the sum.
However, Sharon’s initial reaction was one of deep distrust and anger. She was supported by her son Bode and Cal Fire colleague Manny, who both encouraged her to at least try to mend the relationship. After their urging, Sharon cautiously agreed to meet Ruby for coffee twice a week, leaving the future of their strained connection uncertain.
Bode and Jake’s Risky Teen Rescue
While Sharon dealt with family drama, Bode and Jake responded to a dangerous call involving a troubled teenager. They found a teen named Tyler, played by guest star Conor Sherry, hiding in a condemned building that was affected by the Zabel Ridge fire. The situation quickly escalated when Tyler panicked, ran, and accidentally started a fire.
Bode and Jake safely extracted the teen, and no one was hurt. At the hospital, Bode spoke with Tyler’s frustrated stepfather. Seeing a reflection of his own troubled younger self in Tyler, Bode decided to step in as a mentor. He learned Tyler had a background in baseball and offered to help coach him, aiming to provide the guidance he himself once needed.
Jake Reaches Out to His Half-Brother
A significant subplot followed Jake’s personal journey to connect with a half-brother he recently learned about. With encouragement from his girlfriend and friends, Jake overcame his hesitation and left a voicemail for Malcolm Crawford, introducing himself and explaining their shared father.
The revelation shocked Malcolm, who was unaware he had a half-sibling. When Malcolm shared the news with his family, his sister became hostile to the idea of a connection. She later confronted Jake at the firehouse, demanding he stay away from “her” brother, abruptly halting what could have been a positive new relationship for Jake.

Eve Makes a Major Personal Decision
The episode also followed a critical point in the relationship between Eve and her girlfriend, Francine. They attended a meeting about becoming foster parents, a step Francine was eager to take. During the process, Eve realized she and Francine had very different visions for their future. Faced with the reality of parenting, Eve understood she was not ready for that commitment and might never be.
This difficult realization led Eve to end her relationship with Francine, deciding it was unfair to continue when their life goals no longer aligned. She updated paperwork to remain a contact but refocused her energy on her professional passion: reopening the Three Rock inmate firefighting program to prepare for an expected severe fire season.
