The NBC drama series Found, canceled earlier this year, is getting a major second chance. The entire series will begin streaming on Netflix in early 2026, giving the show a new audience and a permanent online home.
Found stars Shanola Hampton as Gabi Mosely, the head of a crisis management firm that specializes in finding missing people often ignored by the system. The show was canceled by NBC in May 2025 as part of a larger schedule change, leaving its story on several major cliffhangers and disappointing a dedicated fan base. Now, Netflix will make both existing seasons available, sparking new hope among viewers that the show could one day continue.
What Is The Found TV Series About?
Found is a procedural drama with a unique and dark central twist. The show focuses on Gabi Mosely and her team at Mosely & Associates, a crisis management firm. They take on cases of missing persons, particularly people from marginalized communities or people of color whose disappearances receive little attention from law enforcement or the media.
However, Gabi has a shocking secret that drives the show’s ongoing story. As a teenager, she was kidnapped and held captive for a year. Years later, she tracked down her kidnapper, a man known only as Sir (played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar). Instead of turning him over to the police, Gabi kidnapped him and has been holding him prisoner in a secret basement cell. She uses his twisted insight into the minds of criminals to help solve her team’s cases, creating a complex and morally ambiguous relationship.
The series explores this tense dynamic while also delivering a “case-of-the-week” format, as Gabi’s team works to find a different missing person each episode.
Why Was Found Canceled By NBC?
Found premiered on NBC in October 2023 to strong numbers, drawing 10.5 million viewers across platforms in its first week and quickly securing a second season. However, viewership declined during its second season.
The show was officially canceled on May 9, 2025, as part of a larger wave of NBC cancellations. Reports indicate the decision was heavily influenced by major programming changes at the network. NBC needed to clear a significant amount of primetime schedule space to accommodate 180 hours of NBA basketball next season, the result of a new, expensive deal with the league. This made Found a “casualty” of the network’s shift in focus.
The cancellation was announced shortly after the Season 2 finale, which ended with major unresolved plot points. In the finale, Gabi publicly confessed to holding Sir captive, while Sir was left bleeding and near death after a mysterious attack. This lack of closure frustrated fans and the show’s star alike.
“I just want folks to know that thereโs still more story to tell,” Shanola Hampton told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “You can see Gabi confessed and Sir is bleeding out at the end, but what comes next?”
Fan Reaction To The Cancellation And Move To Netflix
The cancellation of Found prompted immediate and strong reactions from its fan base, who call themselves “Foundlings”. Many took to social media to express their disappointment and to lobby for another network or streaming service to save the show.
One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Iโm so mad that NBC is doing this. @paramountplus @netflix @peacock @hulu One of you guys should pick up the show donโt let it be cancelled. #FoundNBC”. Others signed online petitions, with one supporter writing, “Found is a brilliant TV show. Please donโt throw it away!”.
The news that Netflix had licensed the series was met with excitement and renewed campaigning. Fans see the move as a critical opportunity to show Netflix there is an audience for the show. One fan urged others on social media, “Netflix could Revive Found!! Pls Guys watch it on Netflix when they upload it so we can get a season 3!”.
On a Newsweek Facebook post about the Netflix move, commenters expressed pleasant surprise. One user reacted by writing, “Let me get this right, Netflix is gonna revive a great show instead of bury it? Is this a trick?”.
Found Netflix Release Date And What To Expect
Found will begin streaming on Netflix in the United States on Friday, January 2, 2026. All 35 episodes from the show’s first two seasons will be available to watch on that date.
It is important to understand that this is currently a licensing deal, not a revival. Netflix has acquired the rights to stream the existing episodes, but has not ordered new seasons. The show’s page has reportedly appeared on the Netflix platform, which strongly suggests the release is confirmed, though an official announcement is still pending.
Whether the story continues beyond Season 2 will depend almost entirely on how the show performs on Netflix. If it attracts a large new audience and generates significant viewing hours, Netflix could potentially negotiate with Warner Bros. Television (the show’s producer) for new episodes. This is a path followed by other canceled network shows like Manifest, which Netflix revived for a final season after it found massive success on the platform.
