The magic is officially back. HBO has given fans their first real look at the new Harry Potter television series, and it takes everyone straight to Hogwarts.
On March 24, 2026, the official Harry Potter series Instagram account shared a striking image of the show’s lead, Dominic McLaughlin, in character as the boy wizard. The photo shows Harry from behind, walking toward the Quidditch pitch on a snowy day. He wears a crimson and gold Gryffindor cloak with his name and the number seven stitched on the back. In front of him, students gather under flying banners for Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, with the Hogwarts castle standing tall in the background.
The caption with the photo simply read “Tomorrow ⚡️,” suggesting that more content, likely a teaser trailer, is set to arrive on March 25, 2026.
A New Generation Steps Into the Wizarding World
Production for the series is currently happening at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, the same place where the original films were made. The show brings together a mix of fresh faces and well-known actors to tell the story of Harry’s first years at Hogwarts.
Alongside Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, the main trio includes Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult cast brings serious talent to the screen. John Lithgow plays Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer takes the role of Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu steps into the shoes of Severus Snape, and Nick Frost plays the beloved Rubeus Hagrid.
Other cast members include Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy.
HBO’s Big Bet on the Boy Wizard
The first look arrives with a major statement from HBO executives about the scale of this project. Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Programming for HBO Max, spoke at the Series Mania event in Lille and called the Harry Potter series a “rare TV investment.”
“We’ve made such a big commitment to this show. We’re committed to filming all the books. We’ve made a financial investment that normally you wouldn’t make with a television show.” – Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max Head of Original Programming
Warner Bros. Discovery executive JB Perrette also spoke highly of the series during an event in London, calling it “the streaming event of the decade.” He mentioned that for HBO Max, this show ranks as “number one, two and three” in terms of importance.
A Faithful Retelling With Room to Breathe
The new series is set to adapt each of J.K. Rowling’s seven books into a separate season. Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on Succession and His Dark Materials, serves as showrunner. Mark Mylod, another Succession veteran, directs multiple episodes. J.K. Rowling herself is on board as an executive producer alongside David Heyman, who produced all eight original films.
The television format gives the creative team more time to explore details that the movies had to leave out. With longer runtimes per season, viewers can expect to see more scenes from the books that never made it to the big screen.

Daniel Radcliffe Sends Support to the New Harry
The original Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe, has publicly shared his support for the new cast. He reached out to Dominic McLaughlin before the official casting announcement to offer his encouragement.
Radcliffe told ComicBook.com that he contacted the production team to get the young actor’s name so he could send a message.
“They contacted me just before [the cast was] announced. They let us know they were about to announce them. All I did was say, ‘I would love to write the boy playing Harry. When you have his name, if you could send me his name… I don’t need anything in advance, just let me know when it is appropriate to write to him to congratulate him and wish him luck.’” – Daniel Radcliffe
When to Expect the Series
HBO has not set an exact premiere date yet. Casey Bloys, HBO & Max Content chairman and CEO, confirmed that the show will arrive in early 2027. While he did not specify a month, he stated that the release window falls within the first few months of the year.
The series is currently deep into production, having started filming in May 2025. With the first season nearing completion, the team is expected to move on to the second season before the first one even airs.
Fans in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India will all be able to watch the series on HBO and stream it on HBO Max when it debuts.
