Dame Helen Mirren is not staying quiet about the rumours surrounding her MobLand co-star Tom Hardy. The 80-year-old Oscar winner took to Instagram to share a clear and simple message: she stands with Hardy, no matter what.

Reports have been flying around all week that the 48-year-old actor was fired from the hit Paramount+ crime series. Sources claimed he showed up late to set, rewrote scripts, and even kept Mirren and co-star Pierce Brosnan waiting for hours. But Mirren just shut down all the noise with one photo and a short caption.

The actress posted a picture of Hardy on her Instagram page on Thursday, May 28. The text on the image read: “Love you now and always, Helen.” She turned off comments on the post, letting the message speak for itself without any outside chatter.

What Started the Rumours About Tom Hardy Leaving MobLand

The drama started when The Hollywood Reporter published a story claiming Hardy’s time on MobLand had become a problem. A source told the outlet that Hardy “refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time” during filming of season two. The same source said he kept the whole cast waiting, calling it a “power play.”

The insider added: “Keeping Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager.” Reports also said Hardy clashed with executive producer and writer Jez Butterworth over script changes and dialogue notes. Puck News first reported that Hardy was not asked back for season three because of these ongoing issues.

MobLand is a Guy Ritchie crime series about two warring London crime families. The show also stars Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt and Toby Jones. Season one came out in 2025 and became one of Paramount+’s biggest hits. Season two has already finished filming but does not have a release date yet.

Insiders Say Hardy Was Not Actually Fired

Not every source agrees with the firing story. Variety spoke to someone close to the production who said the reports were not accurate. “Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for season three, and things are being worked through creatively,” the source told the outlet.

The same insider admitted there were tensions on set but said that is normal when working with a big movie star. “He’s difficult, but he’s a movie star,” the source said. “He’s used to dealing with some of the best directors in the world. So when he suddenly has a TV director, he struggles. He can walk all over them because they’re intimidated by him.”

The insider also shut down rumours that Mirren wanted Hardy gone because of his political views. “I’ve never heard of anything political. I think that’s probably wildly unhelpful and untrue,” the source said. “Helen is not that sort of person. If she had a problem with Tom, she would have said it to his face.”

Mirren’s History of Supporting Hardy

This is not the first time Mirren has spoken up for her co-star. Back in December 2025, she posted another picture of Hardy on Instagram. That time, she wrote: “Things I love: 1. Christmas for obvious reasons. 2. Tom Hardy for his brilliance onscreen, his dedication off screen, his good heart and especially the HardyHugs I get when on set with him which is not nearly enough in my opinion.”

In that same December post, Mirren also joked about things she hates, including “bad journalism.” Looking back, that comment seems to predict exactly what is happening now.

A source told Variety that Mirren did get frustrated when Hardy showed up late. “I know she’s said to him a couple of times, ‘Come on, Tom, we’ve been here for ages, let’s get on with it,’ but she’s never appeared to be anti-Tom.” The insider added: “She certainly isn’t going to be one who stamps her feet and says, ‘Well I’m not coming back if he’s in it.’ It’s just not her.”

Hardy’s Past Set Controversies

This is not the first time Tom Hardy has faced rumours about difficult behaviour on set. During the filming of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015, he had a well-known clash with co-star Charlize Theron. The film’s camera operator said the boiling point came when Hardy arrived three hours late, knowing Theron had come early.

Theron reportedly shouted at Hardy, and he charged toward her before being pulled away. Hardy later admitted he was in over his head during that film. “What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced, partner in me,” he said in 2020. “That’s something that can’t be faked.”

That history makes the current MobLand rumours feel familiar to fans who have followed Hardy’s career. But Mirren’s public support suggests this situation might be different.

What Happens Next With MobLand Season Three

Paramount+ has not officially renewed MobLand for a third season yet. If the show gets the green light, filming is expected to start in September 2026. Whether Tom Hardy returns as Harry Da Souza is still not decided.

The production is working through the creative issues behind the scenes. A source confirmed that Guy Ritchie, who directs and produces the show, is pushing to make things work with Hardy. The actor also serves as an executive producer on the series.

For now, fans can watch season one of MobLand on Paramount+. Season two is complete and waiting for a release date. And no matter what the tabloids say, Helen Mirren has made her position very clear.

“Love you now and always.”
