The second half of the Netflix thriller His & Hers delivers shocking twists, brutal confrontations, and a final reveal that redefines the entire murder mystery. As the investigation in Dahlonega deepens, old friendships fracture, hidden identities are exposed, and a mother’s secret mission for justice comes to a head.

This recap covers the major events and answers from Episodes 4, 5, and 6.

Episode 4 Recap: Explosive Confrontations and a Secret Reunion

Episode 4 opens with the discovery of a second body. News anchor Anna Andrews reports that her former friend, Helen Wang, has been found murdered at their old high school, St. Hilary’s. Anna claims Helen called her to meet there, but investigators find the call was placed after Helen’s time of death.

Detective Jack Harper grows more suspicious of Anna. His partner, Priya Patel, uncovers that Anna, Helen, Rachel, and a fourth friend, Zoe Harper, all wore matching handmade friendship bracelets as teensโ€”the same type placed in the victims’ mouths. Jack finds an identical bracelet in his sister Zoe’s belongings.

Amid the tension, Anna pushes the town’s mayor to hold a televised press conference. The event quickly turns into a chaotic brawl, which Anna subtly fuels, securing dramatic footage to boost her career. Her professional rival, Lexy Jones, arrives in town to steal the spotlight, conducting her own emotional interview with Rachel’s widower, Clyde Duffie.

The episode’s core is a long-awaited, emotional meeting between Anna and Jack. They finally discuss the traumatic death of their baby daughter, Charlotte, and the grief that drove them apart. Anna reveals she left because she felt Jack was controlling how she should mourn.

Anna told Jack, ‘When you kept telling me I was fine, it felt like a request’.

This raw confrontation ends with them reconciling physically, hooking up in Jack’s truck. Meanwhile, Priya’s investigation takes a turn against Jack. She learns he canceled a trace on Rachel’s phone and that his DNA sample was contaminated.

Episode 5 Recap: A Fifth Girl and a Fatal Trap

In Episode 5, the investigation pivots. Priya presents a theory to the sheriff: the murders are connected to a toxic high school friendship group that became rivals. She notes only two members are still aliveโ€”Anna and Zoeโ€”and suggests Anna could be a suspect. The sheriff gives Priya 48 hours before calling in state investigators.

Jack remains fixated on Clyde Duffie as the killer, accusing him of murdering Rachel and Helen to stop a blackmail scheme. Clyde denies this, hinting the person being blackmailed is another ‘C’. He also reveals he knows about Jack’s affair with Rachel.

A crucial tip leads Jack to an Atlanta apartment linked to Rachel. A man says he drove Rachel there on May 18; she returned to the car with a fresh handprint on her face, as if slapped. The apartment belongs to Richard and Lexy Jones.

At the same time, Priya learns from Zoe that their high school group had a fifth member: Catherine Kelly. Zoe shows Priya a yearbook photo, but Priya’s own research uncovers something elseโ€”Catherine Kelly had a sister named Andrea who died.

The episode’s most harrowing moments come through extended flashbacks to Anna’s 16th birthday. The five girlsโ€”Anna, Rachel, Helen, Zoe, and Catherineโ€”go into the woods. Rachel had secretly invited older men, who arrive with alcohol. After a deal for money, the men turn aggressive, attacking Catherine as she screams for Anna.

In the present, Anna and Richard find their hotel reservations mysteriously canceled. Richard invites Anna to stay at his in-laws’ remote lake house. Once there, Anna discovers family photos revealing a shocking truth: her rival, Lexy Jones, is actually Catherine Kelly. Catherine has reinvented herself after years of being bullied.

The episode ends with two climactic scenes. Jack returns home to find water leaking from the ceiling. He discovers his sister, Zoe, dead in the bathtub. Simultaneously, at the lake house, Anna realizes she is trapped with Richard and the woman she now believes is the killer.

Episode 6 Recap: The Final Fight and the True Killer Revealed

Episode 6 begins with Anna trapped at the lake house with Richard and Lexy (Catherine). After calling Jack for help, a physical struggle ensues. Anna grabs a gun but misses her shots, allowing Richard to lock her in a room. Lexy enters, and the two women engage in a brutal fight, with decades of rage and betrayal boiling over.

Lexy screamed at Anna, ‘You liar!’ accusing her of luring her into the woods on that fateful birthday.

Jack races to the scene after finding Zoe’s body. Priya, now highly suspicious of Jack, tries to detain him but he disarms her and leaves. At the lake house, Lexy gains the upper hand. As she aims Anna’s empty gun, Jack bursts in and pushes Anna to safety. Priya, arriving with backup, fatally shoots Lexy from outside.

With Lexy dead, the case appears solved. A year later, Anna’s life is rebuilt. She is back on the anchor desk, reconciled with Jack, pregnant, and they are raising Zoe’s daughter, Meg. During a visit to Anna’s mother, Alice, Alice gives Anna a letter. Reading it, Anna learns the staggering truth.

Alice is the real killer.

The voiceovers heard throughout the series were excerpts from this letter. Alice explains that after Anna disappeared to grieve Charlotte, she watched Anna’s old home videos to feel close to her. The final tape showed the full horror of Anna’s 16th birthday: after Catherine ran away, the men turned on Anna. Rachel, Helen, and Zoe watched and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ while Anna was assaulted.

Consumed by a need for vengeance, Alice killed Anna’s tormentors. She murdered Rachel after seeing her with Jack, killed Helen and Zoe, and framed Lexy by planting evidence. Alice, who cleaned many local homes, used her access to plant Rachel’s nail clippings and the murder weapon at the lake house. She pretended to have dementia, even walking nude in the rain after Rachel’s murder, to avoid suspicion.

The letter reveals Alice also knew Lexy’s secret: years earlier, a young Catherine had emptied her sister Andrea’s inhaler before a boat trip, leading to Andrea’s fatal asthma attack. This was the secret Rachel and Helen were blackmailing Lexy about.

Alice’s final act was not just about revenge. She wanted to revive Anna’s career and reunite her family. As Anna finishes the letter and looks at her mother on the porch, her expression is one of understanding, not horror. The series concludes with the twist that the murders were an act of twisted maternal love.
