The ongoing plagiarism accusations involving NewJeans and ILLIT took a new turn as Kim Tae Ho, the CEO of Belift Lab, addressed the issue directly at a National Assembly audit on October 24, 2024. Kim, who appeared as a witness at the audit held by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, clarified ILLIT’s stance on the issue and shared updates regarding the legal action against Min Hee Jin, former CEO of ADOR.
The CEO’s Statement
During the audit, Kim stated that a civil and criminal lawsuit had already been filed against Min Hee Jin over the allegations of plagiarism. The accusations stem from claims that NewJeans, a group managed by ADOR, had copied elements from ILLIT’s works in their recent releases.
“Speaking as Belift Lab’s CEO, a civil and criminal lawsuit has been filed against Min Hee Jin, the former CEO of ADOR,” Kim said. “We are waiting for the judgement of the judiciary. We will use documents and proof to prove that the plagiarism claims are false.”
Kim also expressed his regret for the controversy and the impact it has had on fans and the general public.
“As many people are already tired out by all these things that happen this year, efforts will be made so that such things are not repeated,” Kim added, further apologizing for the toll the ongoing controversy has taken on everyone involved.
What’s Next?
The case is now in the hands of the judiciary, with both sides waiting for the court’s decision. ILLIT, in the meantime, has moved forward with their latest release, “Cherish (My Love),” despite the ongoing legal battle.
