The third season of Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama Invasion continues the intense battle between humanity and an alien species. With the release of Episode 5 on September 19, 2025, the story has taken dramatic turns, including betrayals, new alien threats, and emotional character developments. Here’s a recap of what has happened so far and what to expect in the upcoming episodes.

Recap of Season 3 So Far

Invasion Season 3 premiered on August 22, 2025, with the episode titled “The Ones We Leave Behind.” The season continues the story of characters like Trevante Cole, Mitsuki Yamato, Aneesha Malik, and Jamila Huston as they face evolved alien threats. The season introduces a new faction called Infinitas, led by Marilyn Tanner, which opposes the World Defense Coalition (WDC) and seeks to expose government secrets about the invasion.

Episode 4, titled “The Mission,” focused on the WDC’s plan to enter the Dead Zone, the area surrounding the crashed alien mothership. Trevante and Mitsuki joined a military mission to destroy the mothership using a shard bomb. However, their helicopter was attacked by alien vines and crash-landed in a forest. Meanwhile, Aneesha and Clark were captured by Infinitas but later escaped to reunite with their children.

Episode 5, titled “Point of No Return,” aired on September 19, 2025. It dealt with the aftermath of the helicopter crash. Trevante and Mitsuki survived, along with several soldiers, but the pilots died. Mitsuki discovered that touching the alien vines allowed her to connect with the alien hivemind, feeling their pain and emotions. This connection overwhelmed her, and Nikhil Kapur used a neural dampener device to block the signals and save her. The team eventually reached a nearby airbase after fighting off hunter-killer aliens.

On the other side, Aneesha and Clark were taken to an Infinitas safehouse in Shadow Lake. They attempted to escape to return to their children but were caught by Marilyn Tanner, who offered to help them reach an airbase. Jamila Huston overheard conversations about a new, more dangerous alien species in the Dead Zone and urged the WDC to take the threat seriously.

The episode ended with a major betrayal. At the airbase, Marilyn Tanner slit the throat of WDC leader Jack Hollander, and Infinitas forces attacked the WDC soldiers. Trevante managed to escape with Mitsuki, Aneesha, Clark, and Jamila on a helicopter, but the shard bomb was destroyed during the ambush.

Background and Production

Invasion was created by Simon Kinberg and David Weil. The series premiered in 2021 and has since developed a dedicated fanbase. Kinberg has stated that he envisions the show as a four-season story arc, with Season 3 focusing on the war against the aliens and the emergence of new threats. The cast includes Golshifteh Farahani as Aneesha Malik, Shamier Anderson as Trevante Cole, Shioli Kutsuna as Mitsuki Yamato, and India Brown as Jamila Huston. New cast members for Season 3 include Erika Alexander as Verna Mae Potter.

The show is known for its global perspective, following multiple characters across different regions as they respond to the alien invasion. While earlier seasons were criticized for slow pacing, Season 3 has been described as more action-packed and faster-paced.

Simon Kinberg, the show’s creator, mentioned: “From the beginning, I envisioned it as a four-season show, as an arc that starts from last season, which was a much slower burn character season, kind of day one of the invasion, and then season 2, itโ€™s much more of the invasion, youโ€™re really now in a war.”

Fan Reactions and Criticisms

Fan responses to Season 3 have been mixed. While some appreciate the increased action and deeper exploration of the alien threat, others have criticized certain plot points. For example, the betrayal in Episode 5 was seen by some as contrived, with one review noting:

“Despite Infinitas being public enemy number one last episode, here we see her just waltz in with her team to the airstrip without any security or guards to watch her as she ends up alone with the Director.”

However, many viewers have praised the character development, particularly Mitsuki’s connection to the aliens and Trevante’s emotional struggles. The introduction of new alien types has also generated excitement among fans.
