The wait is finally over for Invincible fans. The highly popular animated superhero show returned on March 18, 2026, with its fourth season on Prime Video. As announced by the streaming platform, the first three episodes dropped together, giving viewers a massive dose of action, gore, and emotional turmoil right from the start.
The new season picks up after the devastating fight with Conquest that ended Season 3. Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun) is still recovering, both physically and mentally, from that brutal encounter. But Earth’s threats don’t wait for anyone to heal. The premiere episodes throw Mark, the Guardians of the Globe, and viewers straight into a world where the lines between right and wrong are getting harder to see.
This recap focuses on the major events of the first two episodes, breaking down the Sequid attack on Earth and the deep dive into Omni-Man’s past on the dying planet of Viltrum.
Episode 1 Making the World a Better Place Mark New Rules
The first episode, titled “Making the World a Better Place” , shows a very different Mark Grayson. Some time has passed since the Invincible War. Mark’s arms and legs are still in robotic casts, reminders of how close he came to death. He and Atom Eve (voiced by Gillian Jacobs) have started their own security firm called Invincible Inc. , operating separately from Cecil and the Guardians of the Globe.
But the biggest change is in Mark’s attitude. He is done playing nice. After killing Conquest to save Eve, Mark has adopted a “shoot first, ask questions later” policy. He believes that the only way to truly protect his loved ones is to permanently eliminate threats, even if it means taking lives.
The Sequid Crisis
The main crisis of the episode kicks off with a massive Sequid attack. These mind-controlling aliens from Mars launch their assault from deep underground. They latch onto unsuspecting bystanders, turning them into puppets for the hive mind. The Guardians of the Globe rush to contain the situation, trying to hold back tidal waves of blue, oozing Sequids.
The situation becomes personal when the Sequids take over a human host: former astronaut Rus Livingston. He becomes the vessel for the Sequid leader. Mark faces a terrible choice. He can try to save Rus, risking the Sequids spreading further, or he can stop the threat permanently.
In a moment that shows how much he has changed, Mark chooses to kill. He punches straight through Rus Livingston’s face, ending the Sequid threat but also taking an innocent man’s life. Even Cecil Stedman (voiced by Walton Goggins), who is known for making tough calls, is worried about what this violence is doing to Mark’s soul.
New Threats Emerge
The episode also introduces two major new villains from the comics. First, Dinosaurus (voiced by Matthew Rhys), a scientist who gets transformed into a massive, apocalyptic dinosaur-like creature with a twisted plan to “save” the planet. Second, Universa (voiced by Danai Gurira), an alien warrior who tries to steal Earth’s nuclear energy to save her own dying species, even if it destroys life on Earth.
Mark’s response to both threats is immediate and violent. He nearly kills them without hesitation, showing his new, hardened worldview. The episode forces viewers to ask: Is Mark becoming the very thing he swore to destroy? Is he turning into his father?
Episode 2 I Give You the Grand Tour The Truth About Viltrum
The second episode, “I’ll Give You the Grand Tour” , shifts focus entirely away from Earth and into deep space. This episode is essentially a two-hander between Omni-Man/Nolan Grayson (voiced by J.K. Simmons) and the one-eyed Coalition agent Allen the Alien (voiced by Seth Rogen).
The episode begins with Nolan guiding Allen and his partner Telia on a mission. They are searching for weapons powerful enough to kill Viltrumites. Nolan, seeking redemption, is using the knowledge from the pulp fiction novels he wrote on Earth to locate these secret weapons.
A 500 Year Old Flashback
The heart of the episode is an extended flashback that reveals the horrifying history of the Viltrum Empire. We see a young, mustache-less Nolan being raised in the brutal, cult-like society of Viltrum. He teaches young Viltrumites the way of violence. In a twisted coming of age ritual, his own parents beat him half to death to toughen him up.
But the true horror comes next. A weaponized biological agent called the “Scourge Virus” is deployed on Viltrum. The virus causes Viltrumites to bleed out from every orifice, leading to the harrowing deaths of almost the entire population. The episode shows mass graves and bodies piling up, creating planetary rings made from the dead. This genocide, later revealed to be the work of the Viltrumite defector Thaedus, left only a few dozen pure-blooded Viltrumites alive.
Even as a reformed Viltrumite, Nolan still wears the scars of this event himself.
Visiting Old Crimes
In the present, Nolan takes Allen to visit Space Racer (voiced by Winston Duke), an alien he buried alive centuries ago. Space Racer possesses the Infinity Ray, a weapon powerful enough to kill a Viltrumite in a single shot. Not surprisingly, Space Racer is not happy to see Omni-Man again.
As they travel, Nolan is forced to confront the monster he used to be. He wiped out entire planets and buried enemies alive for centuries. Allen serves as a perfect foil, his humor and forgiveness contrasting with Nolan’s grim past.
The episode also reveals that the Viltrumites, despite facing near extinction, continued their conquests. They plan to repopulate their empire by seeding life on other planets and breeding with compatible species. This revelation hits Nolan hard, as he realizes he kept inflicting pain on others even after experiencing such loss himself.
The episode ends with a major cliffhanger. Conquest, the sadistic Viltrumite Mark thought he killed, has escaped from The Block (the high-security GDA prison) and reunited with the Viltrum Empire’s leadership. We get our first glimpse of the season’s main villain, the powerful and icy Grand Regent Thragg (voiced by Lee Pace), who is now aware of Earth and Mark’s existence.
