The lines between good and bad are about to get very blurry in Hell’s Kitchen. With March 24 fast approaching, the team behind Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is finally opening up about what is next for one of the most dangerous men in New York. While most of the focus has been on the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones or the arrival of Matthew Lillard, the creative team is spending a lot of time talking about Wilson Bethel’s Ben Poindexter, aka Bullseye. And according to them, we have been thinking about this character all wrong.

In a recent interview, showrunner Dario Scardapane and executive producer Sana Amanat sat down to discuss the core of the new season. They dropped some major hints that Bullseye isn’t just coming back to cause chaos. Instead, the writers are digging deep into the psychology of the character, asking a very simple question: What if Bullseye thinks he is the good guy?

The ‘Pain’ Behind the Psycho

For years, Bullseye has been seen as the ultimate hired gun, a guy with perfect aim and zero conscience. But Scardapane wants audiences to look closer at the version of the character that was built back in Season 3 of the original Netflix series. He credits the writers from back then for creating something special with Poindexter, something that wasn’t just about being a villain.

“I don’t look at the villains as villains. And I don’t look at the heroes as heroes,” Scardapane explained. “And one of the things I think that Eric Olson and the staff of season three [of the Netflix show] did brilliantly was the Bullseye character… the Poindexter story. You know, there’s a lot of pain and a lot of ouch to that guy.”

That “pain” is the key to everything in Season 2. The showrunner pointed out that Dex is not just a cold-blooded killer. He is a deeply broken individual who was manipulated by Wilson Fisk. The first season of Born Again made it clear that Poindexter was just a tool, a weapon that the Kingpin used and discarded. Now, without Fisk pulling the strings, Dex is left to figure out who he is.

A Hero in His Own Mind

So, what happens when a mentally unstable, highly trained killer decides to redefine his own morality? According to Scardapane, Dex gets an opportunity in this season to see himself as something he has never been before: a hero.

“He gets an opportunity in this season to be a hero, at least in his own mind, and we started playing with that,” Scardapane revealed.

This shift in perspective is what makes the new season so unpredictable. With Mayor Fisk turning New York into an “Iron City” where vigilantes are hunted like criminals, the city is in a state of emergency . The government is after people who take the law into their own hands. In a twisted way, a guy like Bullseye might look at that situation and decide that since he is being hunted by the same people who are hunting Daredevil, maybe he and Daredevil are on the same side.

It is a dangerous and confusing place to be. As Scardapane noted, Bullseye’s journey in Season 2 is “very unexpected.” The team is banking on Wilson Bethel’s ability to bring layers to the role. “Wilson Bethel is such a surprise,” Scardapane added. “I mean, he’s such a joy to be around as a person, but his performances are such a surprise, and I think he gave us something in the previous season three that we were excited about expanding on.”

The Elephant in the Room: Foggy Nelson

Of course, for fans of the series, there is a massive hurdle standing in the way of any kind of redemption or team-up: Foggy Nelson. It was Bullseye who shot and killed Matt Murdock’s best friend. That is not the kind of thing you just forgive and forget.

The creative team is fully aware of this. Scardapane addressed the tension head-on, admitting that no one expects Matt to simply forgive Dex. However, the story is forcing them into a corner where they might need each other.

“I don’t think anyone wants him to be forgiven necessarily for Foggy, but at the same time, we realize there’s more to that character. It’s not just a villain killing someone,” Scardapane said.

This sets up a potentially explosive dynamic. Matt Murdock is a man of faith and law, but he is also human. Sharing screen time with the man who murdered his brother in arms creates a level of tension that goes beyond a standard superhero fight. It is deeply personal, and it promises to be “messy, brutal, and deeply human,” as one report described it.

What to Expect from Dex in the New Season

Wilson Bethel himself has been hyping up his return for months. In previous interviews, he teased that fans would see sides of the character they have never witnessed before. Now that the promotional tour is in full swing, the details are getting clearer.

Bethel described his work in the upcoming episodes as “some of the best work I’ve done on Daredevil, and maybe on any show.” He promised that the character gets to do things that are “completely new and novel and insane and crazy” .

This aligns with what Scardapane hinted at when he described a particular sequence in Season 2 as “one of my favorite sequences that I’ve ever been involved with in 30 years of doing this” . Given Scardapane’s long career, that is high praise.

Fans can expect a Bullseye who is more confident, more dangerous, and completely convinced of his own righteousness. He isn’t just aiming darts and paper clips anymore. He is aiming to prove something to the world, and to himself.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 premieres exclusively on Disney+ on March 24. The season will consist of eight episodes, releasing weekly . Viewers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and India can stream the series on the platform.
