What Happened In Episode 6 And What To Expect Next

The previous episode, “In the Name of the Father,” ended with the town in a state of high tension. An angry mob led by Clint Bowers has surrounded Dick Hallorann’s bar, The Black Spot, where Hank Grogan is hiding. This directly sets the stage for the major historical event promised in the next episode’s title.

More importantly, Episode 6 confirmed a major theory: Ingrid Kersh is the daughter of Bob Gray, the original circus performer whose identity was taken by the monster Pennywise. Ingrid believes her father’s spirit is trapped inside the creature. This has led her to work with IT, dressing as a clown named Periwinkle to help scare children. She revealed that she first met the monster at the Juniper Hills asylum, where it killed another child to get her attention and convince her it was her father.

The Story Of Bob Gray And The Burning Of The Black Spot

Episode 7 will dive deep into the past. Promotional material shows that a large part of “The Black Spot” will be a flashback to the early 20th century, focusing on Bob Gray’s life as a circus clown before he was taken over by the demonic entity. Viewers will see Bob teaching his young daughter, Ingrid, her clown performance pose, adding a layer of tragedy to her later actions.

In the 1960s timeline, the conflict at The Black Spot is set to explode. The standoff between the racist townsfolk and the people inside the bar is expected to end with the building being burned to the ground. This event is a direct adaptation of a tragic incident mentioned in Stephen King’s original novel and the 2017 film, marking a dark chapter in Derry’s history.

The promo suggests that the next episode might mostly be set in the early 20th Century. Thus, the upcoming Welcome to Derry episode will expand upon this version of Pennywise the Clown established by the Muschietti siblings.

The episode will also explore how the monster, IT, convinced Ingrid that helping it would one day set her father free, locking her into a terrible partnership.

The Cast Bringing The Story To Life

The series features a mix of new characters and familiar faces from Stephen King’s world. Bill Skarsgรฅrd returns as the terrifying Pennywise, though this episode may feature more of his human form, Bob Gray.

The main cast includes Jovan Adepo and Taylour Paige as Leroy and Charlotte Hanlon, parents struggling to protect their family. Chris Chalk plays Dick Hallorann, the bartender with psychic abilities whose establishment is at the center of the crisis. Stephen Rider plays the wanted man Hank Grogan, whose hiding spot triggers the mob.

Madeleine Stowe plays the adult Ingrid Kersh, whose complex and tragic relationship with Pennywise is a key part of this episode’s story. The show’s young investigators, led by Clara Stack as Lilly Bainbridge, continue their dangerous search for the truth about their missing friend.

Looking Ahead To The Season Finale

“The Black Spot” is the seventh of eight total episodes in IT: Welcome to Derry’s first season. The season finale, Episode 8, is scheduled for release on Sunday, December 14, 2025. While HBO has not officially announced a second season, director and executive producer Andy Muschietti has discussed plans to continue the story. He indicated that a potential second season would go further back in time to 1935 to explore another brutal Derry event known as the Bradley Gang massacre.
