On December 5, 2024, Jimmy Fallon and Cara Delevingne teamed up for a comedic tribute to the beloved Hallmark Christmas movie genre. The sketch, part of Fallon’s Holiday Seasoning Spectacular, poked fun at the familiar tropes of these festive films, while adding a twist to their usual formula.
Musical Meet-Cute
Decked out in bright red outfits for the occasion, Fallon and Delevingne played two strangers, Holly and Nick, who meet at a small-town hardware store—a classic Hallmark movie setting. Fallon’s character, Nick, sings about his failing business, blaming the arrival of a Walmart in town for the decline.
“I saw you walk in my hardware store, I’m a local in town, you ain’t been here before. My business is failing ’cause you boss built a Walmart,” Fallon croons, before realizing that the scenario is straight out of a Hallmark film.
Delevingne’s character, Holly, responds with her own musical commentary, running down the list of Hallmark movie clichés. “I saw you working and busting a sweat, but I’m from the city, can’t settle down yet,” she sings. “I’m out of your league, way out of your ballpark. Turns out you’re a prince! This is a movie on Hallmark.”
From Hallmark to Lifetime
As the song continues, Fallon and Delevingne have a playful back-and-forth, embodying the flirtations and romantic tensions typical of Hallmark movies. The pair even jokes about spotting former Hallmark star Candace Cameron Bure as they sing, “It’s all the same plot, everyone’s hot, and it’s almost Christmas Day. The drama is low, it’s starting to snow, I think I see Candace Cameron Bure!”
True to Hallmark movie form, despite their differences—such as Nick’s disdain for Christmas—the couple ends up falling in love and embracing a happily-ever-after. But instead of the expected sweet conclusion, the narrative takes a dark twist when Fallon’s character questions Delevingne’s intentions.
“We get married, now you’re reaching for a knife. Why?” Fallon’s Nick asks, as Delevingne’s Holly seems to prepare for a sinister act. The revelation follows: “Oh my God, this is a movie on Lifetime!”
The sketch humorously shifts from a Hallmark-style romance to a thriller akin to Lifetime movies, showcasing the duo’s comedic chemistry.
