Bollywood fans waiting for Kartik Aaryan’s creature comedy Naagzilla will have to wait longer. The film, originally scheduled for an Independence Day 2026 release, has now moved to February 12, 2027. The makers officially announced the new release date on April 14, 2026, confirming that the fantasy comedy will now hit screens during the Valentine’s Day weekend.

The decision comes as the team continues working on the film’s visual effects and post-production. Naagzilla: Naag Lok Ka Pehla Kaand features Kartik as an icchadhari naag (shapeshifting snake) named Preyamvadeshwar Pyare Chand, who is 631 years old. The film marks a different kind of role for the actor, blending Indian folklore with comedy and adventure.

Why Naagzilla Release Date Moved From August 2026 to 2027

The film’s production team, including Dharma Productions and Mahaveer Jain Films, confirmed the shift through a press release. The new date, February 12, 2027, places the film in the Valentine’s Day weekend slot. The original plan was to release the movie on August 14, 2026, during the Independence Day weekend.

Sources close to the project say the postponement is mainly due to ongoing VFX work. A source said: “The film’s post-production and VFX work are still in progress and we want to give it the time it deserves.” The film uses heavy visual effects to bring the shape-shifting snake world to life.

Box Office Clash Avoided With Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947

The move also helps Naagzilla avoid a direct box office clash with another big film. Sunny Deol’s period drama Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, is scheduled for release on August 13, 2026. Both films were set to compete for audiences during the same holiday weekend.

Trade experts say avoiding a clash with a big-star film like Lahore 1947 makes business sense. A trade insider said that the makers wanted to “avoid stacking the film against other big releases in the crowded August 2026 line-up.” With the new date, Naagzilla currently has a solo release on February 12, 2027, with no other major film announcing the same slot yet.

Kartik Aaryan’s Character and Film Details

Kartik Aaryan plays Preyamvadeshwar Pyare Chand, a 631-year-old shape-shifting serpent. The actor shared a motion poster in April 2025 with the caption: “Insanon wali picharein toh bahut dekh leen, ab dekho naagon wali pichchar… #Naagzilla – Naag lok ka Pehla kaand..Funnn phailaane Aa raha hu main, Preyamvadeshwar Pyare Chand.”

The film is directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, known for the successful Fukrey franchise. The story is written by Gautam Mehra. The production team includes Karan Johar, Mahaveer Jain, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, and Neetu M Jain. Preeti Mukhundan also stars in the film.

The official press note stated: “Dharma Productions & Mahaveer Jain Films’ mega scale creature comedy – NAAGZILLA all set to hit the big screens on Valentine’s weekend – 12th February 2027. A world of shape shifting snakes, rooted in Indian folklore.”

Fan Reactions to Naagzilla Delay

Fans shared mixed reactions to the release date change on social media. Some expressed disappointment about the longer wait, while others supported the makers’ decision to focus on quality.

One X user joked: “Valentine pe ladkiya bf ka naag dekhengi ya #KartikAryan ki #Naagzilla?” Another fan wrote: “First in my bloodline to see an icchadari naag movie.”

A third user commented: “Naag Panchami was a better date but well, considering the bigger stars coming then, good decision.” The original motion poster announcement in 2025 had also received strong reactions, with one fan writing: “Kartik never disappoints his audience. Always comes up with something new, interesting, fun film.”

What This Means for Kartik Aaryan’s Upcoming Projects

Kartik Aaryan currently has other films in his lineup. He is attached to star in Captain India, an aviation rescue drama directed by Hansal Mehta. That film was announced in 2021 and is expected to begin production later this year. He also starred in the romantic comedy Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which released earlier.

With Naagzilla moving to 2027, Kartik’s 2026 release schedule now has more breathing room. The actor continues working on multiple projects while fans wait for his shape-shifting serpent role to hit screens.
