Quentin Tarantino‘s two-part revenge saga, Kill Bill, is finally coming to theaters as a single, complete movie. Titled Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, this cut presents the story as Tarantino originally intended, combining both volumes into one four-hour-plus epic. For the first time, audiences nationwide will be able to experience The Bride’s full journey in a single sitting, complete with new footage and a special intermission. The film will be released on December 5, 2025.
What Makes This Version Different
This new release is not simply the two existing movies played back-to-back. Tarantino has edited them into one seamless narrative. This means the cliffhanger ending from Kill Bill: Vol. 1 has been removed, along with the recap that opened Kill Bill: Vol. 2.
A major addition for this version is a never-before-seen 7.5-minute animated sequence. This new anime segment is expected to expand on the backstory of O-Ren Ishii, one of the film’s central antagonists. The director had previously teased the existence of a much longer animated piece that was cut from the original releases due to time constraints.
Another significant change involves the iconic House of Blue Leaves fight scene. In the original release of Vol. 1, a large portion of this battle was shown in black and white to appease ratings boards. For The Whole Bloody Affair, this entire sequence will be presented in full, bloody color for the first time in Western theaters.
The total runtime for this cinematic event is approximately four hours and 18 minutes, which includes a 15-minute intermission, allowing viewers a break during the lengthy feature.
The Director’s Vision Realized
Quentin Tarantino has always maintained that Kill Bill was conceived as a single film. It was only during the editing process that the decision was made to split the story into two parts, released six months apart in 2003 and 2004, to accommodate its massive length.
In a statement about the upcoming release, Tarantino said:
โI wrote and directed it as one movie โ and Iโm so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie. The best way to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is at a movie theater in glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!โ
This version of the film has been something of a legend among cinephiles. It first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and had sporadic, limited screenings at theaters owned by Tarantino himself. The December 5 release marks its first-ever wide theatrical run, making the director’s complete vision accessible to the general public.
How to Watch the Epic
Lionsgate will release the film across North America in all major markets. For purists and film enthusiasts, select theaters will offer special presentations in 70mm and 35mm formats. The studio has struck new film prints to accommodate these screenings, offering a classic movie-going experience.
The release date of December 5, 2025 strategically places the film in theaters during a typically slower weekend following the Thanksgiving holiday, positioning it as a must-see event for movie fans.
The Story of The Bride
For those new to the saga, Kill Bill is a revenge story centered on a character known only as The Bride, played by Uma Thurman. She is a former assassin who is attacked by her own team, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, on the day of her wedding rehearsal. Shot in the head by her former lover and boss, Bill, she loses her unborn child and is left in a coma for four years.
After waking up, she embarks on a relentless mission of vengeance. Her goal is to hunt down each member of the squad, culminating in a final confrontation with Bill himself. The film is renowned for its unique style, blending elements of martial arts films, spaghetti westerns, and Japanese anime.
The cast includes Lucy Liu as O-Ren Ishii, Vivica A. Fox as Vernita Green, Daryl Hannah as Elle Driver, Michael Madsen as Budd, and David Carradine as Bill.
