South Korean actress Kim Go Eun recently addressed a comment she made on a YouTube show that went viral. The comment, in which she said she tells herself she needs to get through tough filming days because she’s getting paid, sparked discussions about professionalism and work ethic in the entertainment industry.
Kim Go Eun was speaking to reporters on February 26th to promote her new movie, “Exhuma,” a mystery thriller that is quickly becoming a box office success. During the interview, she expressed her hope that the film’s success would continue, stating, “It’s a commercial film, so I think it would lose its significance if no one watched it. That is why I hope everyone watches it. Even if I am criticized, I hope they watch it first.”

Following this statement, Kim Go Eun was asked if she felt she had given the movie’s producers their “money’s worth,” referencing her previous comment on YouTube. The actress responded calmly, explaining that the comment was meant to be a joke.
“It was a joke I made at my expense,” she said with a sheepish smile. “You know, on those days when it is freezing but you have to film, or on days you know it’s going to be tough, it’s just something that I say to myself to get through it. I didn’t say this to criticize anyone but myself. There is truth in my words. When I am going through a hard time, I tell myself I have to do it because I am getting paid, in a joking way, to will myself through it.”
Kim Go Eun’s explanation clarifies that the comment was not meant to be a serious statement about her work ethic or a criticism of the film industry. Instead, it was a lighthearted way she motivates herself to persevere through challenging filming conditions.
The actress’s down-to-earth personality and dedication to her craft have always been admired by fans. This recent incident highlights her ability to laugh at herself and connect with audiences on a personal level.
