Three of South Korea’s most popular actresses are making a major return to screens this fall. Kim Go-eun, Suzy, and Han Hyo-joo are each headlining new projects across different genres and platforms, offering fans a diverse range of storytelling. Meanwhile, IU and Park Bo-young are already generating excitement for their planned 2026 releases.

Kim Go-eun Stars in Friendship Drama ‘Eunjung and Sangyeon’

Kim Go-eun leads the Netflix series Eunjung and Sangyeon(You and Everything Else), which explores a lifelong friendship between two women. She plays Eunjung, a character described as normal but with a special honesty that attracts people. The story follows their relationship over decades, from their 20s to their 40s, showing how they support, envy, and sometimes resent each other over time.

The series has already found international audience. It quickly entered the Netflix Top 10 list in South Korea and reached the top ten in 14 other countries shortly after its release. The show’s attention to detail, including fashion styles reflecting different eras from the 1990s to the 2020s, has been noted for creating a sense of nostalgia.

Later this year, Kim Go-eun will also appear in another Netflix series called The Master of Confessions. In this project, she takes on the role of a mysterious inmate known as the “witch” who can easily understand others’ psychology.

Suzy Returns with Fantasy Rom-Com ‘Genie, Make a Wish’

Suzy stars in the Netflix fantasy romantic comedy Genie, Make a Wish, which premieres on October 3. She plays Ga-young, a woman with psychopathic tendencies that have been kept in check by her grandmother’s strict care. Her life changes when she discovers a magical lamp and awakens a genie, played by Kim Woo-bin.

This marks the first reunion of Suzy and Kim Woo-bin since their 2016 drama Uncontrollably Fond. The genie character is revealed to be Iblis (also known as Satan), who is trying to prove that humans are corruptible. The series is written by famous screenwriter Kim Eun-sook, known for hits like The Glory.

Suzy’s portrayal of the emotionless Ga-young and her colorful fashion in the series are already drawing significant attention from viewers.

In addition to her drama work, Suzy will appear in the film 7:00 Breakfast Meeting for the Devoted, which has been officially invited to the competition section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival. She plays a crew member named Sagang who is dealing with the pain of a breakup.

Han Hyo-joo Features in Japanese Netflix Series ‘Romantics Anonymous’

Han Hyo-joo returns on October 16 with the Japanese Netflix series Romantics Anonymous. She stars alongside Japanese actor Shun Oguri in this romantic comedy about two people with emotional wounds and secrets who connect through chocolate.

Han Hyo-joo plays Lee Hana, a genius chocolatier who struggles with gaze phobia. The series is a global project produced by Netflix’s Japanese team and is based on a French film. It has also been invited to the Busan International Film Festival’s ‘On Screen’ section.

IU and Park Bo-young Prepare for 2026 Projects

While not returning this fall, two other major actresses are already generating buzz for their 2026 projects.

IU will star in MBC’s 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife alongside Byun Woo-seok. The drama is set in an alternate version of South Korea with a constitutional monarchy. IU will play Sung Hee-joo, the second daughter of a wealthy family who has everything except noble status. Her character enters a contract marriage with a prince who has status but lacks true freedom.

IU recently received praise for her dual role as both a mother and daughter in different time periods in the Netflix series I Was Completely Deceived.

Park Bo-young will star in the Disney+ original series Goldland scheduled for 2026. She plays Kim Hee-joo, an airport security officer who accidentally comes into possession of gold bars tied to an illegal smuggling operation. The story follows her transformation as she becomes obsessed with keeping the gold amid growing greed and betrayal from those around her.

Park Bo-young is known for playing warm characters but will now show a different side as her character grapples with changing desires and nature.

Park Bo-young recently captivated viewers with her performance as twin sisters in the tvN drama Unknown Seoul, where she played both a former athlete and a perfectionist corporate worker who decide to swap lives.
