South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun has been cleared of allegations linking him to a violent attack on a whistleblower involved in the late actress Kim Sae Ron’s controversy. Authorities confirmed no evidence supports claims of a murder-for-hire plot.
The New York Korean Consulate General stated no records exist of any Korean national being arrested or charged in the U.S. for crimes related to the case. This directly contradicts earlier claims by a whistleblower known as “A,” who alleged he was stabbed nine times in New Jersey by assailants tied to Kim Soo Hyun.
The consulate emphasized that under international law, local authorities must report such incidents involving foreign nationals. No such notifications were received. The whistleblower’s story also changed, with medical reports showing arm injuries instead of neck wounds.
Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, previously called the whistleblower’s audio recording “fabricated.” Forensic analysis suggested the tape was AI-manipulated. The actor has faced intense scrutiny since Kim Sae Ron’s death, with her family alleging they dated when she was underage.
Kim Soo Hyun admitted to a relationship but insisted it occurred in 2019–2020, when Kim Sae Ron was an adult. The whistleblower’s claims further fueled the scandal, but authorities now confirm the attack story lacks credibility.
The controversy began when Kim Sae Ron’s family and a YouTube channel, Garosero Research Institute, released alleged proof of their relationship. The whistleblower provided an audio clip claiming Kim Sae Ron discussed dating Kim Soo Hyun as a minor.
Legal experts noted the recording’s inconsistencies. Journalist Lee Jin Ho revealed the whistleblower demanded money in exchange for a “positive” version of the tape. Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team filed defamation lawsuits against those spreading the allegations.
Kim Sae Ron’s family maintains their stance, but public opinion is divided. Some question their motives, while others criticize Kim Soo Hyun’s handling of the situation. The actor’s career has suffered, with brands like Prada cutting ties.
The FBI was reportedly investigating the whistleblower’s assault claims, but U.S. authorities found no evidence linking Kim Soo Hyun. The case highlights the dangers of misinformation in high-profile scandals.
Kim Soo Hyun’s upcoming Disney+ series Knock-Off was postponed due to the controversy. His agency vows to pursue legal action against false accusations. The actor tearfully denied the allegations in a recent press conference.
“I accept responsibility for what I have done, but I cannot take blame for what I didn’t do.”
