A new report claims to have found proof that controversial online messages, said to be from Kim Soo Hyun to the late Kim Sae Ron, are not real. A Korean news outlet says it has seen the actor’s personal military diary, which shows he could not have sent the messages on the date they were time-stamped. The messages had been shared online and caused a lot of anger among netizens.
The Controversial Message Claims
The issue started when a YouTube channel, Garo Sero Research Institute, shared screenshots of private KakaoTalk chats. The messages were presented as conversations between Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron. In one particular exchange dated April 2, 2018, a person said to be Kim Soo Hyun sends a message that reads, “Sigh, I want to see Saero-Mero soon.” The conversation then discusses meeting up on April 5. At the time, Kim Sae Ron was 17 years old, a minor, which led to severe public criticism of the actor.

[1:48 pm] Kim Sae Ron: When are we meeting up?
[1:49 pm] Kim Soo Hyun: We said on Thursday (April 5), heh. With the script! I want to see you now, though.
[1:56 pm] Kim Sae Ron: Without the script, since the drama got cancelled. So itโll just be me. When will your treatment be over today?
[1:57 pm] Kim Soo Hyun: Oh, LOL. I see. ใ ใ ใ Today, Iโll be going to the hospital, then eating dinner, then going to work out, so around 9 pm?
Military Diary Provides Alibi
Money Today reported, โKim Soo Hyun was actually undergoing field training in his military unit at that exact time,โ based on a personal diary obtained by the outlet. The diary is reported to have tracked his training from April 2 to 5, 2018, as follows:
April 2: Finished the sixth operation. Itโs getting too hot during reconnaissance; Iโm sweating a lot.
April 3: Standing guard. Tomorrow is finally the seventh operation.
April 5: Woke up this morning to pouring rain. If it keeps up like thisโฆ But I donโt want the operation to be canceled. Going out on a mission makes the day go by faster.
Money Today also reported that, in his April 6 entry, Kim Soo Hyun wrote, โIโm looking forward to my leave.โ This is now being considered as proof that Kim Soo Hyun could not have met up with Kim Sae Ron on โThursday,โ April 5, as the messages alleged.
Legal Team’s Response to the Allegations
Kim Soo Hyun’s legal representative, attorney Ko Sang Rok, has spoken out about the allegations. He stated that an investigation has found clear contradictions in the claims made by the family and the YouTube channel. The lawyer suggested that the message screenshots were created by combining Kim Sae Ron’s real chats with another person and falsely labeling them as conversations with Kim Soo Hyun.
“It appears they mixed messages between Kim Sae Ron and another man with messages falsely attributed to Kim Soo Hyun. A simple check of his military leave records would have proven those messages werenโt sent by him. Even with the minimum evidence disclosed, we can fully disprove all of their claims.”

The legal team is using the military service records and the diary as key evidence to prove the actor’s innocence. They argue that this is a clear case of message fabrication aimed at damaging Kim Soo Hyun’s reputation.
Public and Fan Reactions
The initial release of the messages caused a major stir on social media, with many people expressing shock and disappointment. However, since the report about the military diary was published, many fans and online users have shifted their stance. Supporters of the actor are sharing the new findings and calling for a stop to the spread of what they believe is false information. The focus has turned to the credibility of the sources that first released the messages.
