After years of focusing on her acting career, Krystal Jung is officially making her solo music debut. The artist announced her first solo project, a single album titled “Solitary,” through a new behind-the-scenes documentary series, confirming her return to the music industry.

The announcement was made on November 6 with the premiere of the first episode of her documentary series, ‘Charging Crystals,’ which was released on her agency’s official YouTube channel. This marks her first musical release since stepping away from the stage in 2016.

Album and Release Details

Krystal’s upcoming single album, “Solitary,” is scheduled for release on November 27 at 6:00 p.m. KST. The physical album will be available for pre-order starting from November 13 at 3:00 p.m. KST until midnight KST on November 21.

The documentary revealed that Krystal has been working extensively on the album’s production in multiple international locations, including London and Jeju. The project also features a recording session in San Francisco with internationally recognized singer-songwriter and producer Toro y Moi.

Documentary Insight

The documentary series, ‘Charging Crystals,’ provides an intimate look at Krystal’s creative process as she developed her solo material. It highlights her dedication to crafting a personal and authentic musical project, showing the artist in studio sessions and planning meetings.

Viewers see Krystal’s hands-on involvement in the album’s development, from conceptual discussions to vocal recording sessions. The documentary captures the artistic journey that led to the creation of “Solitary,” showcasing the effort behind her long-awaited solo debut.

Career Transition and Background

Krystal originally debuted in 2009 as a member of the popular girl group f(x) under SM Entertainment. Since the group’s last musical activities in 2016, she has primarily focused on her acting career, appearing in various television dramas and films.

Her return to music was signaled earlier this year when she signed with Beasts and Natives, a company specializing in music and performance production. This move indicated her renewed focus on singing and performance after years away from the music scene.

Industry observers have noted that as an idol trained under SM Entertainment, Krystal’s vocal ability is already well-established. The announcement has generated significant excitement among fans who have waited nearly a decade for her return to music.

Global Production and Collaboration

The involvement of producer Toro y Moi points to the international scope and potential musical direction of “Solitary.” The American artist is known for his work in chillwave, indie pop, and alternative R&B, suggesting Krystal’s solo sound may incorporate these influences.

The documentary highlights Krystal’s work with the producer in San Francisco, showing their collaborative process in the studio. These international recording sessions in London, Jeju, and San Francisco indicate a globally-informed approach to her solo project.

With the album release later this month and the documentary series offering ongoing insight into her creative world, Krystal is establishing her identity as a solo artist, separate from her group activities and acting career.
