What Is Landman About?

The story centers on Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for an oil company. The new season finds Tommy under growing pressure from corporations, colleagues, and his own family. As the official description states, “as oil rises from the earth, so do secrets.” Tommy’s breaking point may be closer than he thinks as he faces brutal challenges to survive in West Texas.
Meet the Cast of Landman Season 2
The show features an ensemble cast led by Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton. Several key actors return, joined by some notable new faces.
- Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, the main character and a landman for an oil company.
- Demi Moore returns as Cami Miller, the wife of a powerful oil magnate. Her role is significantly expanded this season as she steps into a more powerful position.
- Ali Larter plays Angela Norris, Tommy’s ex-wife.
- Michelle Randolph is Ainsley Norris, Tommy and Angela’s daughter.
- Jacob Lofland plays Cooper Norris, Tommy and Angela’s son.
- Sam Elliott joins the cast as T.L., Tommy’s estranged father. Elliott is a veteran of Sheridan’s universe, having starred in the Yellowstone prequel 1883.
- Andy Garcia also returns in a larger role as Gallino, a cartel boss looking to get into the oil business.
What to Expect in the New Season
The second season continues directly from the events of the first season’s finale, which saw the death of Jon Hamm’s character, Monty Miller. This creates a power vacuum that his wife, Cami Miller, played by Demi Moore, must navigate.
“We get a better sense of her self-reliance and ruthless business acumen as she faces a banquet room full of bankers ready to pounce on her company in the wake of Monty’s debts and death,” noted a review of the season’s early episodes.
Tommy Norris will be tested from all directions. He must handle pressure from Cami and M-Tex Oil, as well as confront ghosts from his own family’s past. His son Cooper’s storyline is also set to be a compelling part of the new season. Meanwhile, the arrival of Sam Elliott’s character introduces new family dynamics and emotional stakes.
