The family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron has publicly revealed KakaoTalk messages exchanged between her and actor Kim Soo Hyun from 2016. At a press conference held in Seoul, their legal representative explained the difficult decision to publicize details of their past relationship, citing the severe emotional distress the family has endured due to ongoing online speculation and criticism following Kim Sae Ron’s passing.
Reason for Public Disclosure
Attorney Boo Ji Suk, representing the bereaved family, stated that the primary reason for the press conference was to address the relentless and often false information circulating online regarding Kim Sae Ron’s private life. The family had initially been preparing a lawsuit against YouTuber Lee Jin Ho for spreading false information and ridiculing the late actress, which significantly contributed to her psychological distress.
According to the attorney, the family felt compelled to reveal the past relationship with Kim Soo Hyun because he initially denied ever dating her. Even after evidence of their relationship surfaced, he allegedly did not offer an apology and is now claiming they only dated after Kim Sae Ron reached adulthood. Furthermore, the attorney stated that Lee Jin Ho and others have been exposing private matters related to Kim Sae Ron, often accompanied by false and baseless claims.
The family’s aim in presenting this evidence is to put an end to the ongoing controversy and correct the misinformation. Attorney Boo clarified that the press conference was not intended to disclose the reasons behind Kim Sae Ron’s death and that the family does not wish to engage in further unproductive disputes after this announcement. Their immediate priority is to pursue legal action against YouTuber Lee Jin Ho and rectify the spread of lies.

The attorney then revealed a series of KakaoTalk messages exchanged between Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun on June 24, 2016. At the time, Kim Sae Ron was 17 years old (considered a minor in South Korea). The messages read as follows:

Regarding these messages, attorney Boo stated, “These conversations suggest that Kim Soo Hyun may be demanding more than just a good night’s rest. Furthermore, if these messages are not proof that they were dating during this time, then what is? Kim Sae Ron was 17 years old at the time.”
Kim Sae Ron’s Letter to Kim Soo Hyun
The attorney also revealed a letter written by Kim Sae Ron to Kim Soo Hyun sometime before her passing. The letter expressed her feelings and the circumstances surrounding the earlier public photo.
“Hi, it’s Ronnie. How are you?
I’m writing in the hopes of resolving some of the misunderstandings between us. I can’t get in contact with anyone at the company, and I was afraid of the lawsuit. That’s why I uploaded the photo. I’m sorry. I did it so someone from the company would contact me. I’m sorry that I got you involved.
In truth, I’m scared of the people at Gold Medalist. I find them uncomfortable. I can’t seem to get in touch with anyone now that I’ve left the company. I don’t want to be a nuisance to you. I genuinely want you to be happy. I didn’t realize it but we dated for 5-6 years. You were my first and last love. Because you’re important to me in that way, I don’t want you to avoid me. Meanwhile, representatives from the YouTube channel HOVERLAB, who were also present at the press conference, hinted at the release of additional photo and video evidence during a live broadcast scheduled for 7 PM KST.
