Lee Jung Jae, the star of Netflix’s hit series “Squid Game,” has addressed the mixed reactions to the show’s second season. In a recent interview, he discussed the show’s reception and offered insights into the creative decisions behind its release. He also hinted at possible improvements for the upcoming third season.
Addressing the Season 2 Ending
Lee Jung Jae, who plays Seong Gi Hun, spoke candidly with MK about the second season’s reception. He acknowledged the diverse opinions and discussed the creative choices, particularly the decision to end the season on a cliffhanger. He suggested this ending might be a reason for some negative feedback.
Looking back now, I do wonder whether we should have ended it where we did. But if we had waited to complete all 13 episodes before releasing them, we wouldn’t have known when they’d be ready—maybe sometime next year? That could have made it feel too disconnected from Season 1, which would have been uncomfortable in its own way. I’m sure Netflix and the director spent an enormous amount of time deliberating over this.
Accepting Criticism and Looking Ahead
Despite the mixed reactions, Lee Jung Jae maintained a positive outlook. He views criticism as a natural part of the creative process.
Besides, every project faces criticism, doesn’t it? That’s a completely natural part of the process, and something we encounter all the time. That’s why I believe it’s important to carefully consider all feedback.
He also offered some encouraging news for fans. He suggested that the feedback received for season two could lead to improvements in the third and final season, currently in post-production.
Moreover, since Season 3 is currently in post-production, I see this as an opportunity — we still have room to refine things and make them even better through the final editing process.
It appears the “Squid Game” team is taking the feedback seriously and working to enhance the viewing experience for the final season.
