The relationship between Married At First Sight UK couple Dean and Sarah has ended after a difficult journey on the show. The pair decided to leave the experiment during an emotional commitment ceremony, concluding a marriage marked by Sarah’s admitted lack of initial attraction and Dean’s feeling of being disrespected.

A Challenging Start

Dean Vary, a 31-year-old team building host from Feltham, entered the experiment as a self-described hopeless romantic. He works as a darts player, stand-up comedian, magician, and cruise ship host. He hoped to find a love like his parents have, but his connection with his assigned wife, Sarah, was strained from their wedding day.

On their first night as husband and wife, Dean revealed they slept in the same bed but at opposite ends. He told his bride there was no pressure to be physically intimate, saying, “Look, we don’t have to do anything. We’ll do it at our own pace. No rush.” Sarah had previously confessed she felt their relationship was more in the “friend zone” and that she struggled to find a spark.

Growing Tensions and Disrespect

The couple’s issues continued during their honeymoon in the Maldives. Sarah admitted to giving Dean “the ick” because of his jokes and singing, which she said became “more intense” during their trip. This created a feeling of disrespect for Dean, who later told the cameras, “I can’t be disrespected again.”

Their struggles became more public during a dinner party where Sarah was asked if she felt a spark with Dean. She simply replied, “No,” before turning to him and asking, “What am I supposed to say?” She later broke down in tears, confessing, “I just can’t keep doing it. I can’t change my feelings.”

The Final Decision

During their final commitment ceremony, both Dean and Sarah had written “stay” on their cards, hoping to continue in the experiment. However, the relationship experts – Mel Schilling, Paul C Brunson, and Charlene Douglas – intervened with tough truths about their lack of progress.

Mel Schilling told Sarah, “I think you’re clutching at straws here. And this is not to be harsh, this is to be real. We are halfway through this experiment.” Charlene Douglas added that there wasn’t any desire between them and questioned when they would “call it quits.”

Faced with this reality, the couple changed their decision and chose to leave the show. Through tears, Sarah told Dean, “I don’t want to hurt you anymore. I just don’t think we’re right for each other romantically.” Dean, who had earlier confessed he “just wanted to be loved,” replied, “Thank you for being honest.”

Life After the Experiment

Since leaving the show, both have reflected on their experience. Sarah shared a heartfelt message on social media, writing, “Firstly, thank you to Dean – you are an amazing person; you were my rock during the really difficult times and my biggest supporter. I am so thankful to have shared this experience with you.”

Dean responded to her post with three love hearts and shared his own thoughts, saying, “Don’t cry because it’s over smile because it happened. That was definitely an emotional watch, and I think doing this show is probably the best thing I could have ever done for myself.” He added that he has learned much from the experience and is moving forward with a smile.
