Min Hee Jin, the former CEO of ADOR, has publicly criticized BeLift Lab for filing a civil lawsuit against her and for allegedly using the rookie group ILLIT as a shield. The lawsuit, claiming ₩20.0 billion KRW (about $14.3 million USD) in damages, accuses Min of damaging ILLIT’s reputation by making public allegations of plagiarism against the agency.
Min Hee Jin Responds Strongly
On November 18, Min Hee Jin’s representatives released a strong statement, accusing HYBE and BeLift Lab of deflecting blame onto ILLIT while ignoring the damage they have done to NewJeans. The statement reads:
“Despite clear testimony from an internal whistleblower and evident similarities, they are denying it and misleading public opinion. HYBE and BeLift Lab are the ones spreading numerous false claims, disrupting work, and defaming while bringing an issue that could have been resolved internally into the public sphere. They should reflect on who is truly using rookie artists as shields to claim work disruption while ignoring the damage done to NewJeans.”
The Lawsuit and Accusations
The legal battle stems from Min’s public accusations of plagiarism, which she claims involve ILLIT copying concepts from NewJeans. BeLift Lab responded by claiming that Min’s actions harmed ILLIT and caused significant financial damage. However, they also accused her of deliberately delaying the trial, which they had applied to expedite.
The situation escalated when Min Hee Jin revealed details from an internal whistleblower, stating that ILLIT’s creative director received early-stage project plans from NewJeans and that the concepts for both groups were strikingly similar.
