Fans of NewJeans have been calling for HYBE’s Chairman Bang Si Hyuk and other executives to be summoned for a state audit by South Korea’s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee, set for October 24. This demand comes amidst the legal dispute involving former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin and the treatment of NewJeans members. However, the committee has declined the request, citing the ongoing lawsuit as a sensitive issue.
Fans Demand HYBE’s Accountability
NewJeans fans have been highly active, sending hundreds of faxes and emails daily to lawmakers. They insist that Bang Si Hyuk, along with other top HYBE executives, should be held accountable for the alleged mistreatment of the group, particularly its two minor members. In their communications, fans also mentioned:
- Bang Si Hyuk, Chairman
- Lee Jae Sang, CEO
- Park Tae Hee, CCO
- Lee Kyung Joon, CFO
- Jung Jin Soo, CLO
The fans stressed the importance of protecting minors, demanding the committee take action on what they describe as misconduct by HYBE.
Committee’s Decision
The Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee has opted not to include the HYBE executives in the upcoming audit. A spokesperson explained that due to the ongoing injunction lawsuit involving Min Hee Jin, fact-finding is incomplete, making the situation too delicate to address in a public audit.
The committee has, however, requested officials from HYBE affiliates to attend the audit, specifically those involved in the production of NewJeans’ albums. They emphasized that, without clear facts, it would be difficult to effectively question the executives at this time. While the committee acknowledged the wide-reaching implications of HYBE’s activities, they indicated that dealing with these issues would require more than the scope of the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee alone.
