NewJeans Responds to Contract Dispute with Firm Denial of Internal Family Rift Amid Legal Battle

NJZ (NewJeans)

The parents of NewJeans members have strongly denied any internal conflict while the group faces a legal dispute with its agency, Ador. The recent developments include the erasure of rebranded content from the groupโ€™s social media and changes to their official accounts. This news comes amid court rulings that block the band from carrying out independent activities and plans for upcoming legal hearings.

Legal Battle Update

The legal fight between NewJeans and Ador continues to affect the groupโ€™s activities. The Seoul Central District Court issued a preliminary injunction on March 21, which blocked the group from signing new commercial deals or promoting themselves under the name NJZ. This ruling has forced changes in how the group presents itself online and halted any independent projects. The dispute centers on the termination of their contracts with Ador and has led to significant media attention.

A hearing on the groupโ€™s members’ objections to the injunction is scheduled for April 9. In addition, a separate hearing to determine the legal validity of the contract termination is set for June 5. These dates underline the continuing nature of the legal proceedings and the impact they are having on the group’s future activities.

Parents’ Joint Statement

The parents of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein released a joint statement through Instagram to counter claims of an internal rift. The statement came after reports emerged suggesting that there was a dispute among the families over how to handle the lawsuit against Ador. The parents clarified that the disagreements were unfounded and that all families shared a common stance regarding the legal action.

“The claims made by some outlets that there is conflict among the members’ parents are completely untrue.”
“Haerin and her parents are fully aligned. Speculation about other members’ families is also unfounded.”

The statement also explained that the legal process to adjust parental rights was initiated by a family different from those represented by both parents. The families stressed that the decision was made after careful discussion within each household. They further criticized the media coverage for intruding into private family matters and suggested that the leak may have connections with interests from HYBE Labels and Ador.

Social Media Changes

Following the court ruling, NewJeansโ€™ online presence underwent immediate changes. Their official Instagram account, which was once labeled under the rebranded name NJZ, was altered to reflect a new identity. The username changed from njz_official to mhdhh_friends, a reference to the initials of the group members’ names. Additionally, all posts under the previous branding were deleted.

The parentsโ€™ communications channel also experienced a change. Their account was renamed from njz_pr to mhdhh_pr. These modifications are part of the broader efforts to distance the group from the disputed rebranding and to align with the ongoing legal developments.

Court Hearing Details

The legal process is set to continue with two key court dates. The first hearing, scheduled for April 9, will address NewJeansโ€™ members’ objections to the injunction that restricts their independent activities. This hearing is crucial as it will determine how the group can navigate their legal restrictions and potentially resume their career under new terms.

A follow-up hearing is planned for June 5 to review the legal grounds of the termination of their contracts with Ador. The outcomes of these hearings will likely influence the group’s future projects and may determine whether they can eventually return to performing independently.

Group Activity Halted

The groupโ€™s activities have come to a standstill amid these legal and branding issues. NewJeans recently released a new song titled “Pit Stop” during an event at ComplexCon in Hong Kong on March 25. At the event, the members told fans they would take time to regroup. The decision to go on an indefinite hiatus came after the courtโ€™s decision and the ensuing changes on social media.

The ongoing legal challenges, combined with the sudden removal of rebranded content, have led many fans and industry observers to question the group’s next steps. Despite the disruptions, the parents and the group continue to maintain that there is unity within the family and that the decision to pursue legal action was made collectively.
