The Netflix comedy series Old Dog, New Tricks wrapped up its nine-episode run with a finale that put both main characters in difficult spots. The show, which stars Luis Zahera and Lucía Caraballo, ended with Antón facing a legal battle and Uxía on the verge of losing her job, all while a case of doggy stomach flu hit the clinic.
The Final Episode’s Major Problems
The ninth episode, titled “A Crappy Day,” immediately placed its main characters under pressure. Antón was tense about an upcoming court hearing and was determined to represent himself without a lawyer. His niece, Uxía, tried to convince him that he needed legal help, telling him he was not as familiar with laws as he was with cows. Antón ignored her advice.
At the same time, Uxía received an official document from the corporate headquarters of Kawanda, the upscale pet store where they both worked. The document contained the decision from the board of directors on whether she would keep her job or be fired. This put her career in jeopardy.
Antón’s Day in Court
Antón arrived at court to find that, despite his objections, he was required to have a defense attorney for his criminal case. He went in front of the judge and tried to explain the situation in his own way, which surprised the judge and led to a new hearing date being set. Outside the courtroom, Antón met a former client whose dog he had treated that morning. His lawyer informed him that the woman was the District Attorney.
Antón then tried to get her help by admitting he might have been wrong to refuse an X-ray for her dog. His words worried her, and she promised to return to the clinic the next day. During the check-up, Antón tried to ask her for legal advice, which made her realize he had lied in court just to get her help. His plan had failed.
A Discovery at the Clinic
Antón decided to investigate the products sold at Kawanda, suspecting that something there was making the pets sick. He and the other employees searched the store and found that a free promotional item was poisonous. This discovery was critical, as it identified the source of the illness affecting the dogs.
At this moment, a man arrived at the store to formally fire Uxía. He handed her a severance agreement and told her to leave. Using quick thinking, Uxía informed him about the poisonous free items and the danger they posed to pets.
Uxía’s Tough Choice
Although Uxía could have used the discovery of the poisonous products as leverage to save her job, her strong morals prevented her from making that deal. She chose to sign the severance agreement and leave Kawanda, demonstrating her integrity and dedication to doing the right thing, even at a great personal cost.
Meanwhile, at Antón’s court hearing, a man named Vicente admitted the truth, which cleared Antón of any wrongdoing. Antón was declared a free man.
Back at the Kawanda store, a new manager was in place and was already telling Antón to use methods to increase business. The series ends with Antón shouting out in frustration, adding a final layer of humor to the story.
Old Dog, New Tricks is a 2025 Netflix comedy series with nine episodes. It tells the story of a cash-strapped vet, Antón, who goes from treating farm animals to working at a fancy pet store, leading to many funny situations.
