Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri made history on May 31, 2025, by becoming the first woman from her country to win the Miss World crown. The 21-year-old from Phuket defeated 107 other contestants in a glittering ceremony held in Hyderabad, India. Her victory celebrates not just beauty but also her strong advocacy for women’s health through her “Opal For Her” campaign.
Born on March 20, 2003, Opal grew up in a family of hoteliers and developed a global outlook early. She is fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese, reflecting her passion for cultural exchange. Currently studying Political Science and International Relations at Thammasat University, she aims to become a diplomat.
Opal’s journey to Miss World was paved with determination. She previously competed in Miss Universe 2024, where she placed third runner-up and won the “Voice for Change – Silver” award. However, her decision to join Miss World 2025 led to the Miss Universe Organization revoking her title due to exclusivity rules. Undeterred, she won Miss World Thailand just days later and went on to claim the global crown.
“I always believe that no matter who you are, there is always someone who looks up to you. The best way to lead is with grace in your actions.”
Her “Opal For Her” campaign, launched at age 16, focuses on breast health awareness. Inspired by her own surgery to remove a benign lump, she educates women on early detection. This initiative became her “Beauty with a Purpose” project, a key factor in her Miss World win.
Other than advocacy, Opal is multitalented—she plays the ukulele backwards and cares for 16 cats and 5 dogs. Her motto, “To know one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded,” reflects her compassionate spirit.
The Miss World 2025 pageant saw fierce competition, with Ethiopia’s Hasset Dereje Admassu as first runner-up. Opal also earned the title Miss World Asia and Oceania, while the Philippines’ Krishnah Gravidez placed in the Top 8.
Opal’s win breaks new ground for Thailand in global pageants. Her focus now is expanding her campaign’s reach. “With the Miss World title, I can make more impact and help other projects in need,” she said.
