The eighth and final season of Outlander will premiere in early 2026, as announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. Fans got their first look at the upcoming season through a teaser trailer, which hints at major twists, including Jamie Fraser’s possible fate. The final season will have 10 episodes, wrapping up the epic love story of Claire and Jamie Fraser after 12 years.

Outlander Season 8 Release Date And Teaser

Starz confirmed that Outlander Season 8 will arrive in early 2026, following the premiere of the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood in August 2025. A teaser trailer was shown at Comic-Con, taking fans back to the beginning of Jamie and Claire’s romance while teasing dramatic new developments.

The trailer includes a key moment where Jamie reads a book written by Frank Randall, which mentions James Fraser’s death during the Revolutionary War. This has left fans worried about Jamie’s fate in the final season.

Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) said at Comic-Con: “It’s going to be quite, quite an emotional one. I know you’re going to love it.”

Returning And New Cast Members

The final season will bring back Caitríona Balfe (Claire Fraser), Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Sophie Skelton (Brianna MacKenzie), and Richard Rankin (Roger MacKenzie). Other returning actors include Lauren Lyle (Marsali), César Domboy (Fergus), John Bell (Ian Murray), and David Berry (Lord John Grey).

Three new actors are joining the cast:

  • Kieran Bew as Captain Charles Cunningham, a retired British soldier.
  • Frances Tomelty as Elspeth Cunningham, Charles’s mother.
  • Carla Woodcock as Amaranthus Grey, a new member of the Grey family.

However, Kristin Atherton (Jenny Fraser Murray) will not return after her character declined Jamie’s invitation to move to America in Season 7.

What Will Happen In Outlander Season 8?

The final season will adapt storylines from Diana Gabaldon’s novels “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood” and “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone”, along with elements from the yet-to-be-released 10th book.

Season 7 ended with a shocking cliffhanger suggesting that Jamie and Claire’s stillborn daughter, Faith, may have survived. The new season will explore this mystery while also focusing on the American Revolution’s impact on the Fraser family.

Caitríona Balfe shared in a video message: “We are not done yet. I am so excited for you to see the final part of this journey that we’ve all been on together for eight seasons, 12 years.”

Behind The Scenes

The Outlander panel at Comic-Con was emotional, with the cast reflecting on their time filming the series. Sam Heughan joked about his early days on the show, saying:

“I think Jamie didn’t know what he was getting into either. What if he hadn’t met Claire, that woman? But what a wonderful journey we’ve been on.”

The panel ended with Raya Yarbrough performing the show’s theme song live, followed by bagpipers introducing the Outlander: Blood of My Blood panel.
