The Hollywood Creative Alliance has announced the full list of nominees for the 2025 Astra Film Awards, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another“ dominating the field with an impressive 11 nominations. The film is up for top honors including Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and Best Director. The awards ceremony will be held on January 9, 2026, in Los Angeles and will be streamed live on YouTube and KNEKT.tv.
The Top Contenders
“One Battle After Another” leads all films with 11 nominations. The Warner Bros. production is recognized in major categories such as Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. Supporting cast members Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, and Benicio del Toro also received individual nominations.
Tied for second place with nine nominations each are Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” and Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value.” Both films earned spots in the prestigious Best Motion Picture – Drama category. “Sinners” also brought a Best Actor nomination for Michael B. Jordan, while “Sentimental Value” secured a Best Actress nomination for Renate Reinsve.
Other films with strong showings include A24’s “Marty Supreme” and Focus Features’ “Hamnet,” each securing six nominations. Universal Pictures’ “Wicked: For Good,” Warner Bros.’ “Weapons,” and Netflix’s “Jay Kelly” all earned five nominations.
A New Awards Structure
A significant change marks this year’s Astra Film Awards. The Hollywood Creative Alliance has officially split its top categories into separate drama and comedy/musical classifications. This affects Best Motion Picture and all acting awards.
The proposal to update the award structure was put to a vote among the HCA’s 310 members, with 60 percent supporting the change. This new system aims to provide more tailored recognition for performances and films across different genres.
