A mix of strong reviews and popular streaming charts was not enough to save Hotel Costiera from cancellation. Prime Video has officially decided not to move forward with a second season of the Jesse Williams-led action mystery series. The announcement was made in December 2025, just under three months after the show premiered exclusively on the streaming platform.
The show’s co-producer, Fremantle, is actively shopping the series to other potential partners in an effort to find a new home for a second season. In the meantime, Season 1 of the sunny Italian drama remains available to stream on Prime Video.
A Sudden Check-Out for the Amalfi Coast Mystery
Hotel Costiera premiered on September 24, 2025, with all six episodes of its first season released at once on Prime Video in numerous countries. The series was an English-language Italian production, starring Jesse Williams as Daniel De Luca, a half-Italian former U.S. Marine who works as a “fixer” at a luxurious hotel on the Amalfi Coast.
While managing the various problems of the hotel’s wealthy guests, Daniel’s main mission throughout the season was to investigate the disappearance of Alice, the younger daughter of the hotel’s owner. The finale resolved this central mystery but ended on a cliffhanger involving Daniel’s estranged father, setting up a potential storyline for a second season.
Strong Start Could Not Guarantee a Renewal
By many early measures, the series seemed to be a success. It earned a very positive 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and was praised for its beautiful scenery and light, escapist tone. It also performed well on Prime Video’s own charts, reaching the No. 1 spot in the United States and spending several weeks in the platform’s daily Top 10 list in multiple countries.
However, this performance was ultimately not strong enough for Amazon to renew it. Sources indicate the show did not break into Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 rankings for original streaming series, a key industry benchmark. This, combined with ongoing leadership changes at Amazon MGM Studios, led to the decision to cancel after one season.
The Cast and Crew Hoped for More
News of the cancellation comes despite clear interest from the show’s creative team to continue the story. In earlier interviews, cast members Pierpaolo Spollon and Antonio Gerardi expressed their desire to return for more seasons. The show’s producer, Luca Bernabei, had also spoken about the potential for Hotel Costiera to continue as a light, entertaining procedural series.
Fans who enjoyed the show have echoed this sentiment online. One viewer called it “one of the best streaming series” and hoped for a rescue, while another described it as “excellent light entertainment”. The show developed a dedicated fanbase drawn to its charming cast and stunning Italian setting.
What’s Next for Hotel Costiera?
While its future on Prime Video is closed, the story of Hotel Costiera might not be over. The production and distribution company Fremantle holds the rights to the series and has already begun searching for a new partner to finance and distribute a potential second season.
Reps for Amazon and Fremantle declined comment on the cancellation and future plans.
Fremantle has already secured deals to air the first season in several territories where Amazon did not hold rights, including parts of Asia and India. This existing international footprint could help attract a new streaming service or network interested in reviving the show for its global audience.
For now, viewers can still check into the Hotel Costiera for a single six-episode stay. The complete first season, featuring Jesse Williams, Maria Chiara Giannetta, and Jordan Alexandra, remains available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
