Fans of the acclaimed spy drama Slow Horses can rejoice as the show is powering ahead with its next season. Series star Gary Oldman has confirmed that filming for Season 7 will begin at the end of October 2025. This news comes even as the fifth season is currently airing on Apple TV+, demonstrating the show’s incredibly fast-paced production schedule.

Gary Oldman’s Production Update

In a recent interview, Gary Oldman, who plays the brilliant and unkempt Jackson Lamb, provided a clear update on the show’s timeline. He revealed that the team has already finished work on Season 6 and is ready to jump straight into the next installment.

Oldman stated:

โ€œWe’ve already shot season 6, it’s in the can, and at the end of October, we start season 7.โ€

This quick turnaround is unusual in the world of streaming television, where fans often wait years between seasons of hit shows. The production model for Slow Horses allows for this efficiency, as the series is adapted from Mick Herron’s existing series of Slough House novels, providing ready-made story blueprints.

The Source Material for Season 7

The upcoming season will be based on “Bad Actors,” the eighth novel in Mick Herron’s popular book series. Apple TV+ has provided an official tease for the season’s plot, indicating that “Lamb and his Slow Horses are on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of British Government before they can bring down the state.”

The book’s own synopsis adds more intrigue, involving a missing Downing Street specialist and suspicions falling on MI5’s First Desk, Diana Taverner. The story promises to explore the dirty world of politics where “the good guys can find themselves outgunned.”

A Look Ahead for Slow Horses

With Season 5 airing from September 24 to October 29, 2025, and Season 6 already completed and expected to be released in 2026, the confirmation of Season 7 filming points to a potential release in 2027. This steady flow of content ensures that viewers will have more of the darkly humorous espionage thrills to look forward to.

The series continues to be a major priority for Apple TV+, which renewed the show for its seventh season in July 2025. The show’s executive producers have expressed their hope for the series to continue as long as Gary Oldman wants to play Jackson Lamb and Mick Herron keeps writing the books.
