The animated movie Smurfs is now available to watch on Paramount+ starting today, September 16, 2025. The film, which first opened in theaters on July 18, 2025, features the voice of Rihanna as Smurfette and includes an all-star cast. It can be streamed in the United States and Canada.

What the Smurfs Movie Is About

The story follows Smurfette, voiced by Rihanna, as she leads a rescue mission to save Papa Smurf, voiced by John Goodman, after he is taken by the evil wizards Gargamel and Razamel. The Smurfs travel into the real world and meet new friends during their adventure. They learn that their true destiny is to save the universe.

Director Chris Miller described the film as having messages about personal identity and the importance of community and family.

The movie had a production budget of $58 million and earned over $118 million worldwide. In the United States, it made $31 million. While it made more than its budget, it did not reach the expected $150 million needed to break even. The 2017 Smurfs movie, Smurfs: The Lost Village, earned $197 million globally.

Critics gave the film a 21% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences were more positive, giving it a 64% score. Some critics found the movie generic, while others praised its creativity and animation.

Physical and Digital Release Plans

The film was released on digital platforms on August 12, 2025. A 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray version will be available for pre-order starting October 28, 2025. The physical release will include bonus features such as behind-the-scenes content, lyric videos, and interviews with the cast.

Voice Cast and Production Details

The movie features a large voice cast including James Corden, Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, and Kurt Russell. Rihanna not only voiced Smurfette but also helped produce the film and created original songs for it. The animation style was inspired by the original Smurfs comics by Peyo.
