Charlie Cox says his character Matt Murdock, the superhero Daredevil, will not swing into Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor gave a direct answer on a podcast, shutting down months of rumors. This news comes even as other popular characters from past Marvel shows, like Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, are confirmed for the film.

Charlie Cox’s Direct Statement on the Rumors

During an interview on the Phase Hero podcast, Charlie Cox directly addressed the online chatter about a possible Daredevil cameo. He explained that he knows fans believe he is in the movie, especially since he was filming something in London where Spider-Man: Brand New Day was also in production.

His response was clear: “I’m not in Spider-Man”. He added that his current focus is solely on his own series, stating, “I’m just concentrating on DD right now”. This follows a similar statement he made to journalist Brandon Davis at New York Comic-Con, where he also denied involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Why Fans Were Convinced Daredevil Would Appear

The belief that Daredevil would team up with Spider-Man was not without reason. Fans had strong evidence to support their hopes:

  • A Foundation from No Way Home: Charlie Cox first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with a brief but memorable cameo in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. In that film, he portrayed Matt Murdock as Peter Parker’s lawyer, formally introducing the character to this universe.
  • A Street-Level Story: Spider-Man: Brand New Day is described as a more grounded, “street-level” adventure. This style fits perfectly with Daredevil’s world in Hell’s Kitchen, making a crossover feel natural.
  • Other Netflix Characters Are Returning: The movie has already confirmed that Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as the violent vigilante Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher. With one major defender from the Netflix Marvel shows joining the film, fans logically expected Daredevil to follow.

The Andrew Garfield Comparison: Will Fans Believe the Denial?

Despite Cox’s straightforward denial, a portion of fans online remain skeptical. This distrust stems from a famous recent example within the Spider-Man franchise.

Ahead of the release of No Way Home, actor Andrew Garfield repeatedly lied in interviews about his return as Spider-Man. After his appearance was confirmed, he said, “I lied to the internet for two years, and it felt great. It was fun to keep it secret!”

Garfield himself has joked that no one will trust anything he says about future movies. This history of actors misleading the public to protect surprises has led some to view Cox’s comments as a possible misdirection. When podcast host Brandon Davis said he wasn’t sure he believed him, Cox simply replied, “weโ€™ll see”.

Where to See Daredevil and Spider-Man Next

While a team-up is off the table for now, both heroes have major projects on the horizon.

Daredevil’s Next Move:
Charlie Cox’s immediate focus is on the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. The show’s second season is scheduled to debut in March 2026. Marvel has already shown strong confidence in the series by greenlighting a third season for 2027. Furthermore, a new rumor from industry source Daniel Richtman suggests Marvel is considering bringing Daredevil into the massive crossover event Avengers: Secret Wars, which is slated for release in December 2027.

Spider-Man’s New Adventure:
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will continue Tom Holland’s story as Peter Parker. After the world forgot his identity in No Way Home, Peter is now focused on protecting New York City from street-level crime.

The confirmed cast includes:

  • Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man
  • Zendaya as MJ
  • Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds
  • Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk
  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher

The film will also feature villains like Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan (Scorpion) and Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln (Tombstone). Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie is set for release on July 31, 2026.
