EXO’s Suho finds himself in hot water after a seemingly innocent social media post.
EXO member Suho is facing criticism from fans for his recent endorsement, or perceived endorsement, of McDonald’s. The K-pop idol shared a photo of a McDonald’s meal on the fan communication app, Bubble, on August 2, sparking controversy due to the fast-food chain’s involvement in the ongoing BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement.
The BDS movement targets companies that support Israel, and McDonald’s has been a primary focus due to its donations of free meals to the Israeli army. The company has also purchased all of its Israeli restaurants, further entrenching its ties to the country.
While Suho’s post was not a paid advertisement, many fans view his open association with the brand as a form of free marketing. This is particularly upsetting given the idol’s previous participation in a charity event to raise funds for children in Gaza. The perceived hypocrisy of his actions has led to widespread disappointment among fans.
This isn’t the first time a K-pop idol has faced backlash for their connection to McDonald’s. BTS member V previously encountered similar criticism for a post about the fast-food chain. You can read more about it from this link below.
As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Suho and his agency will address the issue.
